Show Intro

"Evening all. Welcome to The Joe Elliott Show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock. Just back from a month in South America. Got a bit of time off before we hit the stages all over Europe. Which starts at Bramall Lane on the 22nd of May. Now what have we got for you tonight?. Sixty minutes of, in my humble opinion, some wonderful music. Starting off tonight with the prog-tastic, and featuring Todd Rundgren, Utopia."

Utopia

"I remember seeing a live performance of that song on The Old Grey Whistle Test way back in 1977 and being absolutely blown away. It was vocally like Queen. But they played like a Punk, Prog Rock band. it was absolutely stunning stuff. And Todd Rundgren and his band were absolutely sensational. I saw them opening for Led Zeppelin at Knebworth. And was very disappointed they didn't actually play that song on the day. However, wonderful bit of work, all s6 minutes and 54 seconds of it. From the album Ra we just Overture: Mountaintop And Sunrise/Communion With The Sun."

David Bowie

"So from one fantastic guitar player fronting his own band to another one who was one of the best side men in the business. Featuring Mick Ronson, this is David Bowie And The Spiders From Mars."

"And before that David Bowie And The Spiders From Mars from the album Aladdin Sane back in 1973. Wow 50 years ago already. Unbelievable. The song Cracked Actor."

UFO

"Chock-a-block full of great guitarists so far isn't it?. That is UFO from Lights Out featuring the amazing Michael Schenker on a song called Electric Phase."

Def Leppard (With The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra)

"Now here's a couple of tunes that feature what I consider to be fantastic orchestration. In a few minutes time Montrose. But right now brand new-ish, Def Leppard."

"And before that absolutely brand new-ish Def Leppard. Let me explain!."

"Originally a hit for us in July of 1987. Just before the album Hysteria was released. Our first ever Top Ten UK single Animal."

"Reimagined for the album Drastic Symphonies which is due out on the 19th of May. 16 reimagined songs and it's not just the greatest hits folks."

"It's all sorts of deep tracks. There's things like Love and Kings Of The World also like Paper Sun. And Turn To Dust originally on the Slang album."

"It's a very different record. And we took basically our most symphonic songs that we could, because we were gonna be working with an orchestra."

"The wonderful Royal London Philharmonic. Recorded live in Abbey Road Studios. What an experience that was to create. Wonderful stuff."

"Hope you like it when it finally comes out. There's just a little taster for ya. The reimagined version of the song Animal."

Montrose

"And yet another wonderful guitar player in Ronnie Montrose. From the band Montrose. Their fourth and final album in 1977 Jump On it. We just heard the wonderful Music Man."

"You are listening to the Joe Elliott Show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock. Coming up get out your umbrellas it's Peter Gabriel."

Peter Gabriel

"And before that from the 25th anniversary deluxe edition of the album So. We heard Peter Gabriel with the wonderful Red Rain."

The Pretenders

"From what I would consider to be the classic line up of that band. That is The Pretenders featuring the ever present and wonderful songwriter that is Chrissie Hynde. The almost ever present Martin Chambers on drums. Who let's not forget loaned himself out to Mott The Hoople for two tours. God bless him. But also including the late great Pete Farndon on bass. And the equally late great James Honeyman-Scott on guitar. And what a player he was. From the second album Pretenders II we just heard I Go To Sleep."

The Clash

"Right then as Bono might say it's time to get on your boots. Here's a bit of combat rock for ya from The Clash."

"And before that The Clash from the album Combat Rock with a song written by their drummer. And why not?. It is Rock The Casbah."

The Psychedelic Furs

"That is a band that I loved ever since I first heard them back in about 1978/1979. Never got to see them live 'till about 2016. And I was ecstatic that I finally got to see them because they were absolutely brilliant. They are The Psychedelic Furs. From the album Talk Talk Talk with their huge hit Pretty In Pink."

Show Outro

"And that my friends is about it for this week. Been a real pleasure as always. But I say it ever week so you already know that. I shall be back with you next week at exactly the same time.

"So until then let's go out with this. I haven't played these guys for such a long time. So go get your denim jacket on. Get ready to use the Head and Shoulders, because we're gonna let our hair down. From the album Hello. This the mighty Status Quo and Caroline. Until next week see ya!."
