DEF LEPPARD To Appear On PIANO ROOM Show With BBC CONCERT ORCHESTRA

Def Leppard will perform with the BBC Concert Orchestra on Radio 2's Piano Room show in May ahead of The World Tour 2023 UK shows.

The new album Drastic Symphonies will be released on Friday 19th May.

The album will feature 16 classic Def Leppard songs reworked and reimagined with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra at Abbey Road Studios in London.

The first single 'Animal' was released to digital and streaming services on the same day as the announcement - listen below.

The World Tour 2023 started in Mexico City on 18th February 2023.

The UK/European leg begins in the band's home city of Sheffield on 22nd May.

BBC Piano Room Performance

Ahead of the tour starting up again the band will make it's live debut with an orchestra for BBC radio 2.

The Piano Room show episode for 18th May is now listed on the BBC website and shows that Def Leppard will be the guest just a day before the new album is released worldwide.

The Piano Room features artists performing at the historic Maida Vale studios in London with the BBC Concert Orchestra.

Typically playing at least two of their own songs and a cover version.

The show is broadcast in the morning during Gary Davies show on BBC Radio 2 and the footage is shown on the BBC Red Button and on the iPlayer.

Videos are also then added to Radio 2's YouTube Playlist.

Def Leppard's appearance follows on from a great recent performance by Depeche Mode who made their debut at the studios and with an orchestra.

Joe mentioned this show on his 11th March Planet Rock show after viewing the appearance by fellow UK band Suede.

First Show With Orchestra

As recently confirmed by the band's Classic Rock interview the band did not perform or record directly with The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra at Abbey Road in 2022.

Therefore the first show the band will play with an orchestra is with the BBC Concert Orchestra next month.

Currently the show page linked below has a time of 10 minutes suggesting possibly just two songs will be played.

Return To Maida Vale

The band first played and recorded here in 1979 for their early radio sessions for Andy Peebles and The Friday Rock Show.

The last known time the band recorded a session at these studios was October 1995 during the Vault acoustic promo tour.
