Def Leppard members Joe Elliott and Rick Savage appeared on UK radio earlier today and mentioned the Bramall Lane show and Diamond Star Halos album.

The World Tour 2023 began in Mexico City on 18th February.

The World Tour 2023 was first announced in October 2022 with Motley Crue.

BBC Radio Special

Earlier today Joe and Sav were interviewed for a one hour show on BBC Radio Sheffield.

Joe and Sav spoke to DJ Steve White in a special titled 'Def Leppard: Let's Get Rocked' which was broadcast from 9am to 10am UK time.

Joe and Sav talked about their early career in Sheffield, the history of the band up to the Adrenalize album before skipping ahead to the Diamond Star Halos album, Bank Of Dave film and the upcoming Sheffield show on The World Tour 2023.

Sections of many songs were played from their early days and up to the Vault era as well as 'Fire It Up' and 'Take What You Want'.

Joe talked about why they are playing at Sheffield United's Bramall Lane and not Sheffield Wednesday's Hillsborough stadium.

Both he and Sav also spoke of why playing Sheffield is still special and how much it means to them.

Joe and Sav explained how the album was made and why they will use remote recording on future albums in the same way from now on.

Sav reflected on the band's cameo in the film and how it came about.

Bramall Lane Show/Venue Decision

Joe Elliott - "The grown ups take care of most of this you know. You leave it to your management and your agents and Live Nation the promoters."

Joe Elliott - "And you do this whole like well let's see where's available."

Rick Savage - "Obviously we knew we were gonna play Sheffield so it's like well in all honesty it was even a conversation."

Rick Savage - "You know it was just forwarded that Bramall Lane was gonna be the venue."

Joe Elliott - "Bramall Lane became available. We did have to move things round a little bit because the way that the tour was panning out from a timing point of view they had to take into consideration that there's a possibility that the Blades may have been in the Play-Off."

Joe Elliott - "So we had to make sure that we didn't fall into a situation where you're cancelling the gig because United are not getting automatic promotion. Which won't be a problem."

Joe Elliott - "No you know what Sav's gonna be graceful about it all."

Joe Elliott - "He's realistic. He's professional."

Rick Savage - "I would have loved it to have been Hillsborough. Absolutely loved it."

Rick Savage - "But it's a rock and roll show not a football show. And listen I've played at Bramall Lane many times but I was actually wearing football boots at the time."

Rick Savage - "So this will be a new, a first for me."

Playing Sheffield

Rick Savage - "It does and every time we do come back it just seems to get better."

Rick Savage - "That's the beautiful thing after all these years we still feel that we've got another level to go to."

Rick Savage - "And again it's such an honour to be in this city to be doing what we're doing. It means the world to us."

Joe Elliott - "I'd love to go on stage and shout out 'Mum I'm home!'. I just didn't say I brought my laundry."

Joe Elliott - "There's always something that you can do in Sheffield that you can't do in any other town."

Joe Elliott - "It doesn't matter whether we all live all over the world in different places these days, it will always be special."

Joe Elliott - "Even to people like Phil who came up to Sheffield and lived with us in Sheffield in 1982 after he joined the band."

Joe Elliott - "And Vivian who's well aware of the fact that we were born a Sheffield band."

Joe Elliott - "It is absolutely something special."

Joe Elliott - "The fact that what's gonna be almost 46 years into our career we're gonna be playing equally or second biggest gig we've ever done."

Joe Elliott - "'Cause let's not forget Don Valley was a hell of a return."

Rick Savage - "It's where we started. Nobody could ever take that away from us you know."

Rick Savage - "We still have a great affinity with the city. I do obviously 'cause I live here."

Rick Savage - "But even the guys that don't live here. And even the guys that actually never live here. They recognise and they have a feel for this city that is pretty unique and it's just a really great feeling to be coming back and playing again."

Joe Elliott - "Are we looking forward to coming back?. You bet!."

Diamond Star Halos Album

Joe Elliott - "You might hear echoes of our past. You also hear things that we've never done before."

Joe Elliott - "Which is the songs that I wrote on a piano for example. That we've kind of shied away from doing in the past."

Joe Elliott - "But we were so open minded to anything on this record because of the situation in which it was born which was COVID lockdown."

Joe Elliott - "We were all so open minded and giddy at the fact that we were gonna make this album when Sav was in Sheffield, I was in Dublin, Vivian was on the East Coast of America and Rick and Phil were on the West Coast."

Rick Savage - "We wanted to make a record and we can never get round to it because we spend 8 or 9 months touring round the world."

Rick Savage - "And here we had a god given opportunity to actually do this. And to actually see if it can physically work."

Rick Savage - "We had our producer in Dublin that we would literally just send all our recordings to and he would collect all these recordings, piece them together in the computer and we would literally build songs as we went along."

Joe Elliott - "We allowed each other to be individuals."

Joe Elliott - "So in may respects this album was done the same way that Queen evolved into a band where Fred can write Bohemian Rhapsody. Brian can write Now I'm Here. John Deacon can write Another One Bites The Dust. Roger Taylor can write Radio Ga Ga."

Joe Elliott - "Four vastly different songs all under the umbrella of one fantastic band. And that's what we became on this album."

Rick Savage - "You were literally left to make these recordings in your own living room."

Rick Savage - "You tried different things because you knew you were on your own. Either it was a complete mess or somebody would turn round and laugh at ya. Which sometimes can be inhibiting when you're stuck in a studio surrounded by five guys and they're all looking at their watch going 'Are you still doing that part?' sort of thing."

Rick Savage - "It didn't matter and I think because of that we came up with an album that was just so far above anything we would have done had we been stuck in a studio looking at each other for six months."

Rick Savage - "It was a fantastic experience."

Joe Elliott - "We had so much fun doing it we actually swore within weeks of starting this record that we'll probably never make a record in the traditional sense ever again because why would we?."

Joe Elliott - "We spend so much time on the road away from our families. And then we spend time away from our families by recording at my house."

Joe Elliott - "I'm a good host and they're great house guests. But they'd still rather spend a month recording and writing at their own place."

Joe Elliott - "We're not the first band to do this. It's just the first time we've ever done this 100 percent."

Joe Elliott - "We've done things on previous records where we've got to the mixing stage of the song and put all the sliders up and gone 'Oops, somebody forgot to do the solo'."

Joe Elliott - "So Phil would say It's OK I'll do it at home and he'd email it in and we'd drop it in and boom nobody ever knew."

Joe Elliott - "So this is nothing new really, but we just really took advantage of the technology. I'm not asking anybody to compare it to Hysteria."

Joe Elliott - "Because how can you expect them to make the comparison to something that's so in their DNA they don't really need to ever hear it again."

Joe Elliott - "But we wanted people to do is like listen to the album for the band we are now."

Joe Elliott - "45 years into our career I think we've made the best album we could ever possibly make."

Rick Savage - "The synopsis was put to us and we though this sounds like a really good heart warming British movie."

Rick Savage - "And then when we heard Rory Kinnear was in it. It was like a no brainer."

Rick Savage - "I mean to us Rory Kinnear is like one of the great British actors. We wanna be involved in some way."

Rick Savage - "And we met some really lovely people and had an insight into what it takes to actually make movies."

Rick Savage - "And I think to hang around at Number One in this day and age of a fast food mentality on everything then it's done great."

Rick Savage - "And I'd recommend anybody to see it that doesn't take life too seriously and just make you feel good at the end it's great."
