Show Intro

"Greetings earthlings and welcome once again to the Joe Elliott Show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock. Yes another year has come and gone. Except this particular year in question wasn't that great was it. What a funny year we've lived through. Let's hope that the current year, and by the way Happy New Year, does eventually get better. It's gonna start off the same we all know that but let's hope towards the summer things brighten up. Maybe, maybe they#ll be some gigs later on in the year. Who knows, fingers crossed. What I do know is that we've got some great music for you tonight. About sixty minutes of all sorts of different stuff. I hope Santa was as good to you as he was to me because I got this beauty for Christmas..

Thin Lizzy

"I believe it was released in October but Santa dropped it into my lap sometime over the last week or so. It is a fantastic box set. It wieghs about 15 pounds. Check this out. Here we go one arm. This is a seven disc collection the books. They're the heavy bit is the books. It's a fantastic box. One DVD six CDs. It is Thin Lizzy. The box is called Rock Legends. Well worth getting there's 99 tracks. I think of which 83 are previously unheard/never been released before. So that really is a great selling point. If you're a Thin Lizzy fan you have to have this thing it's brilliant. Again it's called Rock Legends. The song we just heard is track one from disc one. Originally released back in the Decca days of about 1972. The song is Little Darling."

The Who

"Yes so not only but also no Argyle socks for me folks. I got this as well."

"And before that thank you very much once again Santa Claus we heard The Who from the album The Who Sell Out. It is the super deluxe version which is fantastic. Got a mono mix of the album. A stereo mix of the album. All these out takes and when you read the, once again extensive liner notes, you have to admire Pete Townshend's honesty because he really tells it how it is. A lot of the songs didn't quite make it. But certain parts of them were worth maybe hanging onto and he will tell you right away that this bit and that bit got recycled just a year or two later and got used in the fantastic album that did become Tommy. So it's a great piece of history to actually listen to the music as you're reading the liner notes. The song we just heard though did make the album. It is that immortal and stereo version of the song I Can See For Miles."

Ricky Warwick

"Brand spanking new there from Ricky Warwick. Taking a sabbatical from the Black Star Riders. The album is out in February. It is called When Life Was Hard. The song we just heard You Don't Love Me."

Trevor Bolder

"Now although it's almost seven years since we lost him. Finally the posthumous album is out. And I will explain the intro of this song to you afterwards. This is Trevor Bolder."

"And before that we heard the late great Trevor Bolder. Once with David Bowie and The Spiders From Mars from 1971 to 1973. Sadly Trevor passed away in May of 2013 leaving behind his family and a half finished solo album . So what did his family do. They reached out to all his friends and said let's get this thing finished and what great contributions we have from the likes of Laurie Wisefield who played with Trevor for a couple of years in Wishbone Ash. Laurie Wisefield by the way, trivia buffs, born on the same street as Phil Collen. Also contributions from the likes of Mick Box and the late great Lee Kerslake from Uriah Heep. Lee not only played the drums but he also introduced that song with the legend that was a bit of an in joke on the Def Leppard Pyromania tour back in 1983 when he opened for Leppard. And when they ran out of wine they would come into our dressing room and take ours. Now I class myself as a friend of Trevor's but sadly I couldn't make a contribution. Touring schedules being what they were clashed with the delivery dates of this record. But the vocals have been very well handled by Trevor himself and a long term friend of Trevor's frum Hull. A gentleman called Dirk Gallagher. So well done everybody for getting this thing over the line. So happy that this thing is finally being released. it is Trevor Bolder. The album is called Sails The Rivers. The song we just heard Which Way Will The Wind Blow.

David Bowie

"I have to admit when I bought that album back in in 1974 I was a bit miffed that it wasn't The Spiders From Mars album. Because after all it's such a Spiders From Mars sounding album. But I have forgiven David Bowie over the years and I have moved on. Such a great album. It is Diamond Dogs. The song we heard We Are The Dead."

"You're listening to the very first Joe Elliott Show of the year 2021. It's time for a little break. And when we come back, we're gonna head west and pay tribute to a Mountain."

Mountain

"Who we heard out of the break with Nantucket Sleighride. Or for those of us of a certain age the theme tune to Weekend World. I played both of those songs because sadly just a few days ago Mountain's guitar player Leslie West passed away at the age of 75. Not so old these days. He was one of the most tasty guitarists to every pick up a six string razor and give it a good spanking. He was a huge influence on Mott and specifically Mick Ralphs. So rest in peace Leslie West."

Mott The Hoople

"That my friends is Mott The Hoople from 1971 I think it is. But not officially released until their Anthology box set came out in the late 90s. It is a song called Long Red. Originally recorded by a band called Mountain."

Bad Company

"And talking of Mick Ralphs we've not heard him do his thing for a while have we. So let's put that right. Here with a song that was originally recorded but abandoned by Mott The Hoople is Bad Company."

"And before that from their debut album back in 1973 we heard Bad Company with Movin' On."

Led Zeppelin

"Couple of label mates there. Stablemates. Same management. Same Swansong label eventually. I've not played either of those bands for a while. That is Led Zeppelin from Physical Graffiti with The Wanton Song."

Joe Cocker

"Right then over to Sheffield's finest, no don't be silly, it's Joe Cocker."

"And before that Joe Cocker from an album called With A Little Help From My Friends with a wonderful piece of work called Sandpaper Cadillac."

Supertramp

"That is Supertramp from 1974. The album is Crime Of The Century. The song Bloody Well Right."

Show Outro

"And that my friends, from my first show of the year 2021 is about it. All I can say is goodbye 2020. Let's hope that eventually this year becomes a little more bearable than the last one was."

"So lt's go out on a tubthumper shall we. This is brilliant. From the album Snakes And Ladders. This is Rod Stewart and the Faces and Pool Hall Richard. Till next week see ya."
