Def Leppard played another show with Journey on the 2018 North American tour last night in New York, NY with 16 songs performed.

The show took place at the 20,000 capacity Madison Square Garden.

The band last played New York on 12th April 2003 on the X/Ten world tour.

The ninth show by the band in this city.

Last night's show was only the second time the band have ever performed here at one of the world's most famous arenas. One of the reasons for this could be the (apparently) high costs of playing the venue compared to other New York state venues.

The first show in New York City took place in August 1980 with AC/DC at The Palladium. On Joe's 21st birthday.

They returned to the same venue supporting Blackfoot in October 1981 on the High 'n' Dry tour.

It would take them until August 1992 to return to New York City itself having concentrated on playing at the nearby Nassau Coliseum on Long Island or the Meadowlands in New Jersey (just across the Hudson River from Manhattan - where they rehearsed for this tour).

The 1992 show was a charity event at one-end also featuring Bryan Adams and opener Richard Marx. It took place three days before the main Adrenalize/7-Day Weekend In The Round tour kicked off in Norfolk, VA. The very first time Def Leppard had played at Madison Square Garden.

Almost ten years passed before the next visit in July 2002 during the X/Ten promo tour with a club show at Irving Plaza.

It was followed up with another small show in September 2002 at the China Club.

Three more shows then took place in April 2003 on the full X/Ten world tour. A three night stand at the Beacon Theatre. Over 30 different songs were played over the three nights. Almost a mini preview of the VIVA! Hysteria residency.

Before the show the official Facebook broadcast some live backstage video which can be seen below.

Band friend Steve Brown from Trixter attended the show having stood in for Phil at three shows earlier in the tour.

Live Updates were provided by Chele Drappel with all posts now moved to the Fan photos news stories. Other photos moved to the Photo Gallery section.

This show was Vivian's third time at the arena having played here with Whitesnake on 20th August 1987 as support to Motley Crue on their Girls, Girls, Girls tour.
