Joe Elliott Show 2nd December 2017 Playlist/Transcript (#381)

Def Leppard singer Joe Elliott hosted another edition of his weekly radio show last night on Planet Rock.

This week's show included songs by Foo Fighters, Queen and Down 'n' Outz.

Joe mentioned that Rick Savage was in Dublin last weekend to watch Queen with him at the 3Arena.

Possibly spending time at Joe's studio on new material as mentioned by Joe on the 28th October show.

In other 'new music' news, Joe also mentioned talking to Paul Guerin this week about "Down 'n' Outz business for the future'. Their third album of all original music having been 'on the go' since 2014.

Be Bop Deluxe

"I've read in liner notes and in articles in past magazines in years gone by, that Bill Nelson is actually not much of a fan really of the Futurama album. Maybe just the production because it was Roy Thomas Baker then right in his pomp with Queen when he wasn't working with Be Bop Deluxe, but I love that album. The album from 1975 is Futurama. The song we just heard Stage Whispers."

Sparks

"Well, it is only just around the corner. So I think I can just about get away with this one."

"Before that we heard Sparks from 1974. The album Kimono My House. With the actually currently, this week at least, relevant title of Thank God It's Not Christmas."

Down 'n' Outz

"The album was released yesterday, As was in fact the entire back catalogue of the Down 'n' Outz. Yes the Down 'n' Outz's first two records and the live album are all out now on CD, download and vinyl. Yes and that album. The live album, The Further Live Adventures Of the Down 'n' Outz recorded in Sheffield on a cold wintery night in December 2014 finally gets its release. And there the song Rock 'n' Roll Queen (Live)."

Elton John

"Right then on to some wonderful ivory tinkling. Mr. Elton John step right up."

"And before that Elton John from what I consider the best album he ever made. 1973's Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. The song The Ballad Of Danny Bailey."

Queen

"For me the absolute highlight of last Saturdays show at the 3Arena in Dublin was Queen and Adam Lambert playing that song. Unbelievable. The lights, the lasers, the sound, the performances of everybody on stage was absolutely top notch. If you haven't got a ticket yet, go see these guys. Legends of course we all know that. Adam Lambert will be the first to stand up and say he's no Fred, but my goodness one of the best live vocals I've ever heard. And Rick Savage who was sat next to me said exactly the same thing. Was Adam Lambert last week in Dublin."

"But that is Queen with of course Freddie Mercury on lead vocals from the freshly release, if you like, News Of The World 40th Anniversary version of said album. There's loads of great rare and unheard material on that box set. The song we just heard Get Down, Make Love."

Slade

"And before that Slade from the album Slade In Flame. Part of a movie which some of, you wouldn't believe this, it wasn't all shot in Wolverhampton. Some of it was actually shot in Sheffield. In a area called Upperthorpe, about a mile and a half down the hill from where I was born, 'cause we all ran down to watch after school. The song we heard How Does It Feel."

Bad Company

"I was reading an article this week about Gibson guitars who are making replicas of Mick Ralph's original sunburst finish guitar. The legendary sunburst finish Les Paul. It's gonna have the same blemishes, the same scratches, the same wear and tear and probably a few cigarette burns in exactly the same spot as they would be on the original. And you can get one of these guitars for a staggering 7,000 dollars. Which is kind of ironic when, as was pointed out to me by Paul Guerin this week when we were talking Down 'n' Outz business for the future, that Mick Ralphs probably picked that guitar up in a second hand store in Memphis back in the early 70s for about a 150 dollars. But that's the way things roll I'm afraid. That is Mick Ralphs of course in his full pomp there with the band Bad Company. The band he formed with Paul Rodgers having left Mott The Hoople in 1972. That's the title track from the album Run With The Pack."

Hanoi Rocks

"Right then they were always two steps from the move and they were pretty damn good. This is Hanoi Rocks."

"And before that Hanoi Rocks from the album, and what an album, Two Steps From The Move we heard Cutting Corners."

The Struts

"There's a new album dropping soon, cannot wait, but I'm afraid I'm gonna have to. But hey it doesn't really matter. the rest of their stuff is so good, who cares?. That is The Struts with Put Your Money On Me."

Foo Fighters

"Right well I haven't played this lot on my show for a while. So about time I did. This is the Foos."

Mick Ronson

"What a legend. What a song. What a guitar solo. Wow. Mick Ronson from the 1975 album Play Don't Worry with Woman."
