Def Leppard played an acoustic show on the Vault promo tour in Toronto, Canada on 22nd November 1995 and video footage is available.

The show took place at the CHUM-City Building on Queen Street West in Toronto, ON

The first time the band had played in this city since August 1993 on the Adrenalize tour.

Their fourth major show in the city after they had played In The Round in October 1992.

The first two shows took place in June 1983 on the Pyromania and again in June 1988 on the Hysteria tour.

They had played a radio session the night before where some electric songs were played for the only time in 1995. Including a rare electric version of 'Get It On'.

The band had already played in Canada on 23rd October 1995 as part of the 3 Continents In One Day.

This show was broadcast live on Canadian TV and featured interviews, fan questions and a 10 song acoustic performance.

The last major live appearance of the two month Vault acoustic promo tour which had visited over 20 countries for promo shows and TV/Radio appearances.

The show was hosted (somewhat awkwardly at times) by Teresa Roncon.

The show included the only known acoustic performance of 'Foolin'' plus 'Miss You In A Heartbeat' (with Phil on lead vocals/Joe on piano) and the rarely played 'Can't Keep Away From The Flame' and 'From The Inside'.

Joe Elliott - Two Steps Behind Intro

"We've got a noisy lot in tonight. How ya doing?. It's certainly very nice to be back in Canada again. Here's a song for you, little story about this song. We recorded this in my house. It took three hours. Cost the equivalent of about 100 dollars. Came out as a B Side. Then a year later it became one of the biggest hits we've ever had and it's called Two Steps Behind."

Turning point in your career?

Phil - "Definitely. The way we recorded Slang is a lot different to anything we've done in the past. The approach of it was way different. We didn't use a studio. Rick's playing acoustic drums as everyone can see. So that's really cool, that makes a huge difference. You know for ten years since Rick's accident he was playing electronic drums. So it's great, it sounds wonderful."

Sound?

Phil - "Well, it still sounds like Def Leppard. It's just a bit more aggressive you know. There's a lot more aggressive guitars. More dynamics."

(Fan Question ) Why is Canada thanked in the Vault liner notes for MYIAH?

Sav - "Which Rick are we talking about?. Actually I think it was me. I actually made a comment in the liner notes thanking Canada. That's purely because it was actually a bit of a hit over here. Miss You In A Heartbeat. And we never even realised it was a single. We just saw it in Billboard one time and went wow, they actually like that song in Canada.."

Vivian - "That's 'cause they haven't heard us play it yet"

Sav - "Absolutely yeah."

Phil - "We'll change all that later on."

Canada is your best market actually. Why do you think that is?.

Joe - "Per capita, yes. Because like us you're not fashion victims."

(Fan Question) Do you think Bryan Adams sounds like you?.

Joe - "Well, I'm taller than Bryan Adams. But he does have a mighty big voice."

You both have used the same producer Mutt Lange.

Joe - "Yeah that's the similarity. That's basically what a lot of people latch on to you know. It's Mutt's sound. Whoever he works with is gonna have a similar sound. It's all down to the music. Bryan Adams at heart is a rocker. He's had a lot of hits recently with ballads but Summer Of '69 and stuff like that are all rocks songs. We're a rock band. There's gonna be a similar thing if you use the same producer."

Bryan Adams is a rocker at heart what are you?.

Joe - "Speed metallist. I don't know. I have no idea."

Sav - "We are what we are. We don't think about it too much. We let other people get on with it. You either like it or you don't."

Joe - "We've been around long enough. If they don't know who we are now. They've been living in a cave."

(Fan Question) Why did it take so long to release Vault?.

Phil - "A year and a half of both of them gaps has been made up by touring. Playing to you guys basically. So you have to do that. We like touring. It's our favourite thing and the studio's a necessary evil. We don't really wanna be there. We'd rather just play live like we are tonight. But we have to make records and unfortunately before you know it a year and a half's gone by. And we also like getting our records right. We're not perfectionists. But, no, no, no we're not but we want it to sound right. You know we have a certain sound in mind and we kind of don't put it out until we're really happy with it. It doesn't have to be perfect. It just have to have the right vibe."

Joe - "The thing about the Vault about. This is why it took so long to release it. It came out on what the 23rd of October. We didn't even decide to do it until July. So it was kind of three months. So that's probably the quickest thing we've done."

Sav - "Actually it took us fifteen years when you think about it."

Joe - "Yeah it's fifteen years but it kind of only took like a couple of months."

(Fan Question) Where did you come up with the idea for the When Love & Hate Collide video?.

Joe - "Well we basically got a lot of scripts sent to us from various different directors. We didn't like many of them. In fact we didn't like any of them. And so we decided that we should try and get hold of two guys who did what we think are some of the best videos we've ever shot which is like Hysteria and Love Bites. And these two guys Doug and Jean hadn't worked together for five years. Hadn't seen each other for five years and actually fell out and hated each other for five years. ."

Vivian - "When love and hate collide ."

Joe - "We sent the scripts to the both of them and just said you guys get back together and do it. And they kissed and made up. They're good friends again now. They made their first video in five years. There's three different versions of it. So love and hate collided and became love again. It was a beautiful thing. It was a moment in time."

Joe Elliott - From The Inside Intro

Joe - "From The Inside was inspired by a two minute walk over O'Connell bridge in Dublin and seeing a bunch of 10, 11, 12 year old smack addicts. At the time Dublin was the drug capital of Europe. 11 percent of the teenage population were addicted to heroin. Which is a ridiculous amount. But it's gone right done now. They've cleaned it up a lot. I just wanted to write a song that was - I hate preachy songs. I wanted to do one that was like me saying look, this is stupid. So I tried to do it from the drugs point of view as though the heroin was actually singing the song. Which was, I thought, an unusual idea."

(Fan Question) Rick you had Bell's Palsy are you OK now?.

Sav - "That's right. Well actually it'll never be as it was. But it's just one of those things. It's in a slow, it's just getting better day after day. It's been nearly two years now and this side of my face is slowly coming back. So it's no big deal. (points to Rick) You look at this guy, look what he can do and think I've got problems you know."

Joe Elliott - Introducing the last song PSSOM.

Joe - "Pure sex. Def Leppard unplugged, unshaved, unwell, 23 countries in eight weeks. It's now holiday time for us. Thank you. Goodnight and see you next year."
