Wallingford, CT - Fan Reviews

Fan Review - By JRC

What an incredible show! Although people stood up and remained standing even before the band got on stage, it seemed that most people (except me) needed a little time to warm up. Once the excitement level rose, it continued throughout the night! The setlist was everything this fan of twenty years expected...although I must say I do wish they actually SANG Wasted instead of just playing the intro, but you take what you can get!

I think the band underestimated us and did not expect us to respond as well (or as loud) as we did, even though the show was sold out! I am so proud of my state and any other people who were visiting from other places! We showed them that we STILL do love their music, even though they skipped us on the last tour (remember the BIG E show in Mass. was the last show of the Euphoria tour on 9/30/00). My husband said this show was even better than the Big E show. (I agree!) So, the energy was high all around the arena, and the band sounded and looked great!

Thank you Def Leppard for giving us what we wanted...a few hours of rock 'n' roll fun! We WILL see you next time I hope! Just like you said Joe, "Don't forget us, and we won't forget you!" I, as well as the rest of the Wallingford CT audience, will hold you to that!.

Well, it looks like our boys out did themselves once again. Can it be possible after a year+ tour they sound better than ever? This was my 8th show this tour and it totally rocked. The crowd was really into it and sang every word. Joe looked and moved like he was 20 again! Nobody works a crowd better than him. All the guys were full of smiles and having a great time. Vivian even got down on his knees while playing his guitar and kissed a girl in the front row. The set list was changed up a bit. In my mind there's no better song than Let it Go' to start a Leppard show. 'Action' made it's way back into the setlist. (Excellent by the way). We were teased with the intro to 'Wasted' and as usual 'Slang' had everyone up dancing.

The 1st encore was 'Love Bites'. Nothing like watching all the drunk guys swaying back and fourth singing all the words. Priceless :). Next, Joe said, "We've never, ever done this next song live before in 23 years of Def Leppard". (Now I was thinking to myself that'! s what he said at the Atlantic City show where they broke into an amazing rendition of Badfinger's 'No Matter What'). But it wasn't. It was 'Don't Believe a Word' by Thin Lizzy. WOW!! They blew us away. Especially the guy in the front row who was wearing a Thin Lizzy t-shirt. They finished with a kick ass version of 'Let's Get Rocked'.

Joe then told the crowd that this was the best gig on the tour not just in the U.S. but on the whole X tour! WOW!!!! As you can imagine the place went nuts with a deafening roar! Joe ended the show with his famous words, "Don't forget us, and we won't forget you!". Well Mr. Elliott and band there is no chance of us ever forgetting you guys so get into that studio and get back here quick!! Thanks for the amazing memories.

Ricky Warwick was AWESOME, as usual!!! He has such a strong stage presence. Mostly the crowd was receptive and supportive, but there is always the occasional rude remark. At one point Ricky said, "I'm just picturing duct tape over your mouth right now. Don't think I'm somebody who gives a F%^&." He's so good. Now we all know that DL was awesome too, of course!

They kept mentioning that CT was a good crowd and at one point even said they thought we were one of the best crowds they've had. (I have to agree with them from all the shows I've seen on this tour). That's why they said they were going to do 'Don't Believe a Word' for the first time ever for us. I'm guessing that's a Thin Lizzy song (way before my time?) cause they kept smiling and mentioning a guy in a Thin Lizzy T-shirt was grinning.

Let's see some other stuff of note...As most of us are aware, they now don't worry if people call the new CD "Ten" or the letter "X." Joe referred to it as " X or Ten, whichever you want to call it, we don't give a F%^&." (But to be honest it does sound like he prefers "Ten"!!!)

At one point, right before '2 Steps' he apparently got thirsty and grabbed a sip of beer from someone in the front row who must have offered it to him. He mentioned it was good and asked what it was. Turns out it was "miller lite" which he called "weasel piss," LOL.

While Joe stole sips of beer, Vivian was busy kissing girls in the front row throughout the night! From my spot in the 8th row, the girls appeared to be pretty surprised, as did some of their significant others!!! It was funny.

During 'Rocket', Vivian and Phil did their duelling guitar solos, which I thought were quite enjoyable--especially considering how much I usually hate guitar solos at concerts--as they always have just the right combination of technical genius and great melodies that sound so fantastic together. Phil also demonstrated some challenging-looking floor exercise manuevers, WHILE he played his solo. Impressive!.
