Saskatoon, SK - Fan Reviews

Fan Review - By SpyderX

My dad and I got to SaskPlace at about 7:00PM. Ricky Warwick came out and played at about 7:30. He played for 20-30 minutes, I'd say. Then, around 8:30, Def Leppard came out! It was awesome. They started with the disintegrate intro, then went on to play "Let it Go". They played for about 2 hours and 5 minutes or so.

They played the encore (Love Bites, and Let's Get Rocked), but they still didn't put away their instruments, so I was guessing they were going to play one more song (and I was right). I was hoping for Rock! Rock! (Till you Drop), but they didn't play that. Instead, Joe said "Let's get rocked. Let's get wasted!" and then they played Wasted, which I thought was really awesome, because they really don't play that song live much at all, and so far, I think this is the first time they played it on this tour! Overall, awesome show. My first time seeing Def Leppard, and I'll definitely see them the next time they come here! (and there will be a next time, as Joe said).

When seeing Def Leppard there are consistent ingredients that are always present - Band sounds fantastic and they played my favourite songs. This show was a bit different. The crowd played a significant role in how the show was going to turn out.

This show was not near being sold out. The crowd was at about 5000 and was somewhat sedated during the first 6 songs. Lots of sitters, lots of no cheering, and lots of people singing along quietly. It promised to become a show known for it's lame crowd.

Then Photograph came on. It was as if the band had just turned on a switch to get the crowd.....Hysterical! Everyone was standing, singing and cheering as loud as I have ever heard an audience. It was actually painful to the ears. The band loved it! They all paused several times to savour the moment - which only just made things much louder. Joe made several references to the awesome crowd and how much the band had appreciated it.

Then the reward. Wasted was played as a third encore song. I was told by Malvin and Rick afterwards that it was in fact because of the crowd's enthusiasm.

Another thing, the light show! Fantastic! Phil said that the Japanese guy that does the lights changes the lighting format each night. The light show was the best I've ever seen for any concert....ever! Def Leppard had the band, the lights, the camera's, the action, the women, and........the wild Saskatchewan folks like myself to show them how much we do love Def leppard.

A couple of comments on the review above. It did a reasonable job of capturing the essence of the show. The crowd started out slow but by the end the place was going nuts! The reviewer said that the band played Rock Rock but they did not, I'm guessing he meant Rock Of Ages. The previous reviewer indicated that the band opened with Let It Go but I believe it was Another Hit and Run. I do believe that the band was enjoying the crowd as Wasted was added as the third song of the encore which I do not believe was planned.

Not all of the X songs were received poorly as indicated in the review. Now was fairly well received as it received decent airplay on radio in Saskatoon. The other X songs were quietly listened to (or used as beer refill time) as most people obviously hadn't heard them. Joe's voice sounded really worn out but he managed to work his way through the set and in fact, he sounded better by the end of the night than he did at the beginning. This was the 3rd Def Leppard concert I have seen in Saskatoon. I can't wait for the 4th.

When Def Leppard tours again, they will most certainly come back to Saskatchewan. The crowd was not just clapping, but cheering, stomping their feet and banging the chairs so loud that during the encore Joe yelled out "Do you want one more?" And they played "Wasted". My mouth hung open for 20 seconds because I was so shocked that they played it!! Both Saskatoon and Regina were the 2 loudest shows I've been to on this tour, and I've seen 11 shows! Someone in Saskatoon threw an enormous bra on stage and Joe picked it up and said "That's not a bra, that's a hammock! The whole band can sleep in that!!" They all seemed to enjoy the fun crowd and I'm sure they'll be making a special effort to stop there on their next tour.

I was also thrilled to hear them play "Stagefright" (in Regina) - something that I haven't heard in a long time! Well done Canada! Thanks for making the country proud. Now maybe more bands will come to Canada knowing what a good time Def Leppard had here!!.

It ROCKED!!! It was loud as hell and the audience was even louder. Half way through the show they got about a 5 minute standing ovation. First half of the show was all songs that weren't big hits or weren't even singles and the last half was all the big hits. They did 3 songs in their encore (Love Bites, Wasted & Let's Get Rocked).

The show lasted 2 full hours, Joe was the only one that said anything and he didn't stop to say much. There was no pyro or confetti or anything like that just some good lights. I can't remember the exact order of the songs but I know they started with Let It Go. The other songs they did were (see above).

I don't like Vivian Campbell anymore now cuz he was trying way too hard to be Steve Clark, doing all his guitar moves, wearing his guitar low...not only did I think he was making an ass of himself but that was really inappropriate. He came on stage for one of Ricky Warwick's songs. Ricky Warwick was awful. He just had an acoustic guitar that was too loud, all his songs sounded the same and I didn't like any of them and when he would talk he'd mumble and you couldn't understand him.
