There are certain countries we've visited on this tour where they treat us like big, fat pop stars. South Africa. I'm glad to say, is one of them - from the trouble-free excursion through immigration and Customs (yes, of course I'll sign your CD...), to the obligatory press conference, security guards, etc, etc.

Johannesburg

The gig: 30,000-plus young (white!) Leppard fans. Singing every word, playing every chord. I guess we've yet to crossover to the indigenous peoples. That said, it was stunning, brilliant, mind-blowing, unbelievable, not to mention great fun. We had beau coup des TV cameras capturing the event for a local broadcast (did I say big, fat pop stars?), and capped it off with enough fireworks to keep Gerry Adams out of the Northern Ireland peace talks for another 27 years.
