Fan Review :: by Gareth I have been a huge fan of Def Leppard for several years and snapped up tickets when I heard of the show at the famous Glasgow Barrowlands. My girlfriend and I stood close to the front of the stage, only a few feet away from Phil's microphone. Ricky Warwick started the show with an excellent set (his album will be superb) whilst The Darkness warmed the crowd up for Def Leppard. The Darkness, with a small army of die-hard fans in the front row, could be described as 'different' but very good nevertheless. At 2100, Def Leppard took to the stage and the famous Glasgow crowd went wild!! The band took to the stage with Disintegrate playing in the background before bursting into life with 'Let it Go'. Next was 'Rock! Rock! (Till You Drop)' followed by 'Action'. By this time, the atmosphere was electric. "Here's one from 1983" said Joe before hearing the opening chords of 'Foolin' followed by 'Make Love Like a Man'. Next was the first song from X, 'You're So Beautiful'. The band appeared to be loving it and the atmosphere was great. The brilliant 'Hysteria' followed by a heavier than expected version of 'Long Long Way To Go brought us into 'Slang' annd the rockin' 'Four Letter Word'. 'Promises' came next followed by a great rendition of 'Two Steps Behind' with the vocals performed by Joe and The Barrowlands Choir of 1900 people!!! 'Now' was next and it sounded great - really quite heavy. Probably the greatest version of 'Rocket' that I have ever heard followed and the crowd loved it. 'Armageddon It', 'Photograph' and 'Animal' (I can't remember the exact order) were next with 'Pour Some Sugar On Me' and 'Rock of Ages' finishing off. The crowd chanted for more with the band providing an encore of 'When Love & Hate Collide' and 'Let's Get Rocked'. From reading previous show reviews, I knew that this signalled the end of the show but Joe could be seen telling the other band members to do another song. This is a good job because the crowd refused to leave until the band emerged once again to perform a second encore of 'Wasted'. That was it!! The crowd was still ! wild as the Barrowlands emptied. It was a fantastic show, one of the best concerts I have ever attended. The band sounded great and the Glasgow crowd did themselves proud. "We'll see you next time and there will be a next time." shouted Joe as the band left the stage. Let's hope that next time isn't too far away!!.
Fan Review :: by Jonathon Dinnes So here it was, Def Leppard at Barrowlands had finally arrived. Hard to believe really as its my favourite venue and had always dreamed of the band playing there, but I never really believed it would happen. Me and my mate Don arrived in Glasgow around lunchtime, and I must apoloigise for being unbearable company for that day, excitable isn't the word, so sorry Don. Once in the venue, I still struggled to comprehend the band playing in such a small area. The hall filled really quickly, as I got my now customary front row slot in front of Joe. The place looked to be packed by half way through The Darkness. When 'Disintegrate' finally came on I, along with the 1900 others completely went off, and then the band hit the stage running to an amazing response. I honestly can't find words to describe what this was like. The band were running all over the place and the whole front half was bouncing as one right through the opening part of the set, and in full voice. The band kept grinning at us, and each other, and seemed a little in shock at the reaction they had recieved, and Joe said after 'Foolin' that this was the rowdiest crowd by a long way. Throughout the middle part of the set, Joe was talking away all the time, far more than at Sheffield. The banter between Joe and the crowd was fantastic, and very genuine, while the rest of the band seemed to be loving it just as much. Infact Tonight, along with Brixton, seemed far more like home gigs than Sheffield. Unlike Sheffield, the pace and enthusiasim didn't drop in the middle, infact it was full on right to the end. I've rarely seen that level of crowd interaction at a Lep gig, or any gig for that matter. The heat and connection between the band and crowd was awesome, and you could clearly SEE the band feeding off it. The band were far more relaxed than on previous tours, and just having a laugh, I think the show benefitted hugely from this. Again, 'Promises' went down with a front half bouncefest, and the amazing 'Slang' got another outing, infact every song tonight seemed to have a little extra edge to it. But the real highlight of the night was the second encore of 'Wasted'. By this time my throat felt like i'd swallowed a cheese grater, but I shouted every single word of that whole gig. This was the perfect end to the perfect night, and one which I doubt will ever be bettered in my eyes. When the band finally left the stage I felt quite overwhelmed by what i'd just been part of. This was the fifth time in many years that i've seen Lep play (92,96,99,03x3), and nothing even came close to this. Having been at Sheffield on Thursday, and pretty much blown away by what i'd seen, I was looking forward to seeing the band at an amazing venue, but I never even contemplated it being this good. This was one of those rare nights, where the band and crowd take it up to another level, and it was truly amazing to be part of that. And depressingly enough, it was all over and time to go home, but at least Brixton was still to come..... x/x.
