Fan Review 4 :: by DebsSav I was naturally looking forward to seeing Sav and Joe at this charity event..(and unusually Sav was listed first!)..but oh my!..what a surprise the rest of the night was!..Three hours of excellent live music. First half of the concert started with a local Sheffield band-Boy on a Dolphin. Not heard of this band before but they were very good..some Spanish influence in some of their songs and music. Joe and Sav came on..in very casual mode. Joe commenting that it felt very strange being on the stage without the other three and if anyone was going to f*** it up it would be him!..and sure enough he started playing in the wrong key stopped quickly by Sav! They both played acoustic guitar and for those cynics that think Sav doesn't contribute vocally to Def Leppard..think again..he has a brilliant voice. The first set was: Two Steps Behind, From the Inside, Winter Song (by Lindisfarne), When Love and Hate Collide. Second Half of the show became more upbeat, and as I whipped a set list off the stage I can be extremeley accurate! Starting with Paul Carrack of Mike and the Mechanics-playing only piano songs included 'over my shoulder'. John Parr...Excellent!: Naughty Naughty, St Elmos Fire, What if. Kelly Llorenna (girlie pop), This time I know, Still Havent found..(U2's song..totally ruined in my opinion), Tell it to my Heart. More from Boy on a Dolphin. Joe and Rick back on stage..(Rick looking unusually formal but very stunning in a black brocade suit and partly open cheese cloth shirt) No DL songs in this set but very good all the same: Come up and see me, Suffragette City, Can't Get Enough, 20th Century Boy, Encore joined by all the other guests of the night; Money (beatles), American Pie. A very good night all in all, over three hours of entertainment which was well worth the very good price of £18.
Fan Review 5 :: by Sarah The gig was fantastic! No seat in the house was a bad one really. The opening act Boy on a Dolphin were really good and were followed by numerous other artists, with Joe and Sav coming on 45 minutes into the show. They did a 20 minute set and were amusing throughout! Joe started off with his usual banter, telling the crowd what they were gonna play. They kicked off with Two Steps Behind. After that Joe intoduced From the Inside, telling the crowd what the track was about, ie that it was influenced by a drug problem in Dublin. He was telling those who didn't know...."when I say 'I'll beat up your wife' I don't mean me! It's the drugs talking! It's written from the drugs point of view!" That was funny and got some laughs! Next they played a Lindisfarne track, which I've never heard before, I think Joe said it was called Winter Song. Before Sav counted them in, Joe made a quip about it being strange and not liking it without the other three. Sav says "Oh thanks Joe!" so Joe says "No! I didn't mean it like that! I was speaking for the both of us!" There was some comment about things going wrong and then Joe says "If anyone does anything wrong, it'll be me!" So Sav counts them in and they play the first few bars. Sav is looking puzzled! He looks at his guitar and then at Joe and then stops! "Hang on a minute!" he says! "You've got the cap off!" So they are both laughing as is everyone else. Joe then adjusts his guitar and they finally get on and play the Lindisfarne track! They say their goodbyes before beginning the next track, so they can get straight off. The last track they play is When Love & Hate Collide. Joe requests that everyone who knows the words sing along.
They returned
for the
final part of the show following music from Paul Carrack (absolutely
excellent) and John Parr, amongst others. The final part of the show
turned
into a bit of a jamming session. Joe led most of it. We were informed
that
the setlist had been put together by text message! They kicked off with
Make
Me Smile then they did Suffragette City so Joe was really in his
element
here! This was followed by Can't Get Enough of your Love and Money.
Sav was back on bass here, in his usual head nodding stance and Joe was
moving like he usually does, swinging the mic stand around! I don't
know how
he didn't decapitate anyone because the stage was full of people! Joe
was
encouraging people to get up out of their seats and clap. He was doing
that
familiar flicking motion with his wrists which means 'come on! Get up!'
