The line-up also featured rock legends John Parr and Paul Carrack, Eurovision girl Lindsay Dracass and the show's producer John Reilly, with his bands Boy On a Dolphin and Acoustic Angels. Roy De Wired, Lewis Nitikman, Carey Baylis and others entertained 2,000 people at Sincerely Sheffield. Sincere Support, a Sheffield charity giving help to parents of children in hospital, stands to make thousands of pounds from the City Hall concert. Def Leppard frontman Joe Elliott said of organiser Bev Lister: "She has been a Saint with this whole thing." Starry starry night: Big names out in force as city is rocked by charity concert. MAKE Me Smile by Cockney Rebel might not be a track normally associated with rock icons Def Leppard. Neither is Bowie's Suffragette City, T-Rex classic 20th Century Boy or Winter Song....by Lindisfarne! But frontman Joe Elliott and bass player Rick Savage rocked Sheffield City Hall with their amazing acoustic versions as a duet for one night only at the Sincerely Sheffield charity concert last night. They also gave the 2,000 crowd Leppard hits Two Steps Behind, From The Inside and When Love and Hate Collide. The show - raising thousands for Sincere Support, helping parents of children in hospital - also teamed them up later with other South Yorkshire superstars. Rock legend John Parr performed St Elmo's Fire, Paul Carrack entertained at the piano with How Long, Over My Shoulder and The Living Years. Dance diva Kelly Llorenna gave the 2,000 crowd her new single This Time I Know It's For Real, a sensational version of U2's I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For and her massive hit Tell It To My Heart. Eurovision girl Lindsay Dracass delivered power ballads Somewhere Over The Rainbow, I Can't Make You Love Me and Stevie Wonder's Overjoyed. Other stars, playing their own sets and coming together for a grand finale, included Roy De'Wired, Lewis Nitikman, Cary Baylis and members of Boy On A Dolphin and Acoustic Angels, led by lead singer and the show's producer, John Reilly. Bev Lister, founder and co-ordinator of Sincere Support, wiped away tears of joy after her eight-year dream concert came true. The parent help charity was launched out of her own personal tragedy. Her son, Jody, died of heart disease, aged three. She said: "I can't thank people enough for making this concert happen. I'm so very proud. It's taken a lot of hard work and effort from a lot of people. "The concert was amazing and I'm sure it will make more people aware of our charity. I'm now hoping we can do it all over again.'' Def Leppard frontman Joe said: "I'd come back to do this again, of course. It's my home city and we want to help. Bev has been a saint and John Reilly has been amazing.'' He added: "It's always a great thrill to play here at the City Hall. This was the big venue where I saw all my first concerts and big names in the 1970s. "I remember chalking on the side of the wall that we would one day play here - and we headlined in 1980. "But it's more terrifying here than playing in front of 80,000 people. When you can see the white of their eyes in the audience, there's nothing to hide behind.'' Rick joked: "Did I miss the rest of the band with just us two on stage tonight? You bet I did. When I looked over my shoulder and saw Joe on guitar I felt totally naked in front of 2,000 people!" Graham Walker © The Star 2003. Concert Program :: Sav's Message There can be little doubt that one of the most agonising situations we can be faced with is having to cope with a young son or daughter who becomes seriously ill. Unless, of course, you have to suffer the tragedy of losing them at such an early age. Sincere Support help such parents deal with these tragedies head on, and in turn, need our help in whatever way we can give it. Both Joe and I have seen the pain of a mother and father lose their son, who was a great friend to us both, and would like to thank you for contributing to such a worthy cause.
