The first US single from 'Hysteria' was released in 1987. 'Women' was released after the first UK single 'Animal' as the lead off track in the US. The band wanted to let the heavier fans from 1983 know they were back. The song did well on Rock Radio but only reached number 80 on the main Billboard singles chart. It was also commercially released in Japan and in Australia where it reached number 100.
An edit version was included on various formats. It lasts until the end guitar solo but instead of going into that it fades out on a loop of the chorus and Joe singing lines. The US promo CD in jewel album case featured a fold out sleeve that had the album cover on one side. All formats featured the same cover artwork - the right middle part of the album cover. The CD and 12" featured red writing on the top left indicating they were promo releases. The UK B-Side of 'Tear It Down' from the 'Animal' single was also included on this release.
The single was also issued in Australia on 7" and cassette. A promo 7" was also released in Japan.
