DEF LEPPARD's PHIL COLLEN/JOE ELLIOTT On THE STADIUM TOUR/New Songs Live

Def Leppard 2022. Def Leppard 2022

Def Leppard members Joe Elliott and Phil Collen have been interviewed and mentioned the forthcoming Stadium Tour which starts next month.

'Diamond Star Halos' is the band's 12th studio album.

As announced on 17th March it will be released on Friday 27th May 2022.

The Stadium Tour is scheduled to start on 16th June in Atlanta, GA.

Joe and Phil appeared live on Talkshoplive's The Rock N Roll Channel with host Steve Harkins at 7pm ET/12am UK last night to talk about the new 'Diamond Star Halos' album.

As you can see (if you recognise it) the interview was conducted from Mates Studios in Burbank, California where the band usually rehearse.

Joe and Phil (but mostly Joe...) talked about making the album, the Diamond Star Halos album title, 70s musical influence, remote recording, album songs, Rick Allen's accident/recovery, Phil's Deep Purple gig story, Mick Ronson, The Stadium tour and going back on tour.

Touring Again After Two Years

Phil says the band are "thrilled" to be touring again and that The Stadium Tour will be "amazing".

New Diamond Star Halos Songs Live

They also said new songs will be played on the tour, as Vivian has also said.

Take What You Want

Joe suggested that 'Take What You Want' will be played live and possibly open the show.

Joe Elliott/Phil Collen/TalkshopLive - May 2022 Interview Quotes - (Transcribed by dltourhistory)

The Stadium Tour/Album Fun

Phil Collen - "Totally yeah we're itching to go. I think once we did start doing the album though. That became a priority."

Phil Collen - "And we actually put the live thing in a compartment. So deal with that whenever."

Phil Collen - "But don't forget, you know, the reason we're in a band is to play live. So that part's kind of easy for us."

Phil Collen - "And you know without blowing on our horn, I think that we're an amazing live band. You know the vocals and we have an instrument a lot of other bands don't have."

Phil Collen - "And we actually get these vocals and it's part of our thing. So yeah, that part's easier. I mean this was easy. the album was easy 'cause it was so much fun."

Phil Collen - "It was so inspiring and it was artistic expression. But when we play live it's the same deal. It's like we get to run around and do what we wanted to do since we were kids only such a grand scale."

Phil Collen - "So we are so thrilled to get out there. And like I said that's gonna be amazing."

Playing New Songs Live

Joe Elliott - "And the added bonus, as we said before, is that we're not just going round playing the hits like we would have been in 2020."

Joe Elliott - "We're actively gonna be promoting a new album and playing a bunch of songs from it."

Joe Elliott - "To mix in with, you know, all the standard ones that people wanna hear."

Joe Elliott - "Which we like to play as well. Don't get me wrong. We're not one of those kind of bands that go 'oh I'm not playing the hits. Fed up of playing the hits'."

Joe Elliott - "No. You know you look at McCartney. He's been playing some of those songs for over 50 years. Still plays them because there's a value to doing it. For him and for his audience."

Joe Elliott - "It's the same with The Who. For The Stones. And we're, now we're moving into that kind of teeritory now. We're 45 years ."

Joe Elliott - "This line up's been together for 30. And we enjoy playing the Sugar's and the Photograph's and the Rock Of Ages."

Joe Elliott - "But we enjoy playing them more knowing full well that they're blended in with some new blood."

Joe Elliott - "Which keeps us feeling like Dracula's been for his fill. You know."

Take What You Want Live/Possible Show Opener

Joe Elliott - "But none of this is square peg in a round hole. It's natural and it is a great opener. It's got kind of echoes of our past. You know the fact that it's got this huge big symphonic intro is very classically us."

Joe Elliott - "And it's got a little bit of the Rock1 Rock! (Till You Drop) intro comparison if you like. Which I think is a great echo to have you know."

Joe Elliott - "It worked great on Pyromania, so why wouldn't it work on this record. And once that riff kicks in, I mean it's just."

Joe Elliott - "Imagine that one live huh?. Hint Hint. So, you know, opening track of the record, you know, yeah. It's gonna be a stonking live track. It is it's great fun to play."

Joe Elliott - "As is. Most songs are when you start doing new songs. When you add new blood to your set. It's the lifeblood for the band really. And it's what keeps you fresh."

Joe Elliott - "If you're forever just going round playing the same set year in year out. As much as your audience can pull you through a situation. Especially if they're really digging the songs, there's nothing like it from an internal point of view of offering up something new."
