Joe Elliott+U2 On Irish Tribute Song - Updated

Joe Elliott Def Leppard.

Def Leppard's Joe Elliott has contributed to a new Irish tribute song also featuring members of U2 and many other famous Irish musicians.

The song titled "The Ballad Of Ronnie Drew" pays tribute to Ronnie Drew, founder of The Dubliners, who is currently in bad health. It was recorded at Windmill Lane Studios on Monday 14th January and produced by John Reynolds.

The main singers on the track are Bono, Shane McGowan, Christy Moore, Damien Dempsey, Andrea Corr and Sinead O'Connor.

Other artists involved were: Brian Kennedy, Billy McGuinness (Aslan), Bronagh Gallagher, Chris de Burgh, Christy Dignam (Aslan), Duke Special, Eleanor McEvoy, Eleanor Shanley, Gavin Friday, Glen Hansard, Iona Green, Jack L, Jerry Fish, Joe Elliott, Mary Black, Mary Coughlan, Mick Pyro (Republic of Loose), Mundy, Paddy Casey, Paul Brady, Ronan Keating.

Article Quote - "The song is a collaboration, written by the Grateful Dead lyricist Robert Hunter, with Bono, the Edge and the former Golden Horde singer and songwriter Simon Carmody."

The song is expected to be released soon.

Both U2 and Def Leppard have recorded some of their most famous albums at the old Windmill Lane studios (since relocated to this new address). Joe and Bono have been good friends since Joe moved to Dublin in 1984.

Feb 19th - The song will be released (Ireland Only) as a download on Feb 22nd and a CD single on Feb 29th. It premiered on Irish radio this morning.
