BBC 6Music Rock Show - 8th October 2005
[Bruce] - "That was Man Rayyy...."
[Val] - "Man-Raze...."
[Bruce] - "Ah Man-Raze."
[Val] - "That's R.A.Z.E. And that is a side project from Phil Collen the guitarist of Def Leppard who has got together with Sex Pistols drummer, or former Sex Pistols drummer Paul Cook, or maybe current Sex Pistols drummer, Paul Cook...and bassist Simon Laffy who of course used to play alongside Phil in the 80s band Girl."
[Bruce] - "Girl!."
[Val] - "Yeah they got together in the summer when Phil returned to London, he lives in California now..."
[Bruce] - "Phil...?."
[Val] - "Phil Collen...er he came home because his father was sick and they got together and started playing together. They formed this band called Man-Raze. They actually played at show at the Spitz in London on September 27th, unfortunately I missed it cause I was on holiday. But that's a debut single called 'Skin Crawl', maxi-single out on Surrealist Records on October 24th. A full length album is recorded and it's gonna be released in January. And the band are planning to tour then once Phil gets free of his commitments to Def Leppard."
[Bruce] - "Right, jolly good."
[Val] - "More side-projects, Vivian Campbell - other guitarist in Def Leppard has also got an album out, I think it's come out - it is out in the States I'm not sure if it's out over here. It's called 'Two Sides Of If'. And he also did a show (recently) at The Mint in Los Angeles. And he's got quite a few guests appearing including Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top and Joan osbourne. She did that funny song..."
[Bruce] - "Oh - What If God Was One Of Us?..."
[Val] - "Yeah I always thought that...the lyrics kind of annoyed me, that song but she has got a nice voice."
[Bruce] - "Yeah nice voice, I thought so."
[Val] - "Yeah. And from what I gather it's quite a...."
[Bruce] - "Just a stranger on the bus! trying to make his way home...If god was one of us."
[Val] - "That would be those strange characters that sit next to me on...the bendy bus then, on the way from Shepherd's Bush to Acton..."
[Bruce] - "...Nobody calling on the phone - except the Pope maybe - in Rome."
[Val] - "...In Rome."
[Bruce] - "Yes that was it yeah. ''Allo! Allo! is that god? Yes, yes it's the Pope we had a bit of a problem there's this bloke hanging off Blackfriars Bridge can you do anything about it?'...sorry, nevermind..."
[Val] - "...Anyway there's also apparently Robert Johnson and Willie Dixon song covers on his album.
And in a shock move Def Leppard who have been with the management company of Q Prime about as long as Iron Maiden have been with Sanctuary I think. They have left Q Prime and signed to HK Management. To a lady called Trudy Green, who is quite a well known manager. HK are part of Frontline Management which looks after people like Aerosmith and Slash and Poison and people like that.
They have recently said that that covers album that they seem to have been recording for an awfully long time - but hey that's Def Leppards way! - is now not gonna come out until either the end of the year or early 2006. It's called Yeah! and it contains a number of songs like 'No Matter What' by Badfinger and 'Waterloo Sunset' by The Kinks. And stuff by T. Rex and Mott The Hoople and all their favourite bands. They haven't given a reason but presumably that may be due to this change of management."
[Bruce] - "Yes - ooooohhh would you like to be a fly on the wall there?!!"
[Val] - "Wonder why...."
[Bruce] - "Well no not really I'd never want to be a fly on the wall cause you'd get splattered but you know - as you do - probably by some nasty person like me, with a rolled up newspaper!."
