Interview :: Sunday Mirror Newspaper Mar 2004. Reality TV groups mauled :: Def Leppard star Joe Elliot has blasted pop bands who shoot to fame on reality TV shows. The Dublin-based star, who is in studio working on his band's latest album, said he hates the fly-on-the-wall shows such as Pop Idol. The rockstar, whose band is eligible for the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame next year after 25 years together, said he doesn't want to see teenagers crying and breaking down in front of a massive television audience. He said: "I hate them (reality shows) with a passion. I don't want to see how they get from nobodies to 'established' stars -- I only want to see the finished product. "I'm not interested in the way artists are created, I'm not interested in seeing them cry when they can't hit the notes, I don't want to see them screw up. I really only want to see them deliver the finished product.
"Bands should rehearse behind closed doors, and then they should show us their wares when they think they're ready."
