Show Intro

"Evening all. Welcome once again to The Joe Elliott Show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock. This week it is coming to you all the way from Santiago in Chile. And since we were last together, boy have I had an interesting week. Just a few days ago I was hospitalised over night in Bogota in Colombia for what they call moderate to severe altitude sickness. Well I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. And apparently mine was closer to moderate than severe. So god help anybody who ever gets it severely. But they kept me in for observation. I was fine the next morning and went on that evening to have one of the greatest gigs that we've ever done in front of 30,000 people. It was absolutely amazing. Luckily the next day we flew down to sea level and had an equally great time in Lima in Peru. But now fourth day in the same hotel. It's a great tour this is. And travelling with the crew on the Def Crue plane. We're having an absolute ball entertaining all these great folk of South America."

"My job right now is to entertain all you great folk of Great Britain. I've got sixty minutes to play you some wonderful tunes. Gonna start the show off this week with this particular song. Which I will explain after we've heard it. This is The Clash."

The Clash

"So just a couple of days ago we did a photo shoot with the legendary Ross Halfin here in Santiago. In what is the largest cemetery in the whole of South America. It's over 200 acres. It appears to be about as big as Luton. Or Milton Keynes or somewhere. There's two million people buried here. And there are streets going through it. Proper streets with road signs. Stops signs and everything. it really is like a mini city. So that's why that song sprung to mind. I thought we'd open the show with it. It is The Clash from the album Black Market Clash with City Of The Dead."

The Sweet

"Now here's a band that got a bit of a bad rap with rockers back in the day because they had too many pop hits. I know the feeling lads. But when they wanted to rock. They really could rock. This is The Sweet."

"And before that we heard Sweet. Massive in the day with all those fantastic hit singles. But when they wanted to rock they could. You've often heard me play on the show Set Me Free. Which as I've said at the time when I play it how it's Deep Purple almost. Wonderful stuff. From the same album actually. This album is Sweet Fanny Adams. The song we just heard No You Don't."

Robert Plant

"Robert Plant there getting dangerously close to giving all a little bit too much information there Robert. But what a wonderful album it is. it is Manic Nirvana. Robert plant of course. The song Big Love."

Billy Idol

"Right then curl back that lip. And grease back that hair. Time for a little bit of Billy Idol."

"And before that we heard Billy Idol taken from his Very Best Of album Idolise Yourself with Cradle Of Love."

Queen

"Roger Taylor played that song live on his latest British tour. And what a great version he did as well. But I wanted to play the original. It is of course Queen from the album The Game with Rock It (Prime Jive)."

"You are listening to the Joe Elliott Show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock. Coming to you this week all the way from Santiago in Chile. Coming up it's a natural disaster with Blue Oyster Cult."

Blue Oyster Cult

"And before that we heard the headliners. Who, let's be honest were not to blame at all, Blue Oyster Cult. Who were at the time I believe were promoting the album Agents of Fortune. But there we just heard them from an album called Harvester Of Lives. And it's originally a broadcast on an American radio station called KSAN and it is that riff of all riffs. Fantastic live version of that classic tune Godzilla."

Japan

"Two bands back to back there that I saw on the same night way back in 1977 at the Sheffield City Hall. I have to say the headline band's audience tret the opening act with absolute disdain. They hated them. Never gave them a chance. I however thought they were fantastic. And liked them even more for the fact that they were real troupers and they stuck it out. They are Japan. And from the same year their debut album Adolescent Sex. We just heard the song Lovers On Main Street."

Elton John

"Now as you all know I am often tempted to play something a little weird and wonderful. And trust me this is really weird. This is Elton John."

"And before that one of the strangest things that I've heard for a long time. But I have heard it before. Now the press release on this is that it's an unreleased album from Elton John from about 1967. But I've had these songs on a bootleg called The Dick James Demos forever. So I'm not really sure how true it is. Either way it's very. It's very Sgt. Pepper-ish. And it is the title track of the album Regimental Sgt. Zippo."

Rod Stewart

"What a corker of a voice that man has. Absolutely stunning stuff from the first album that I ever bought with my own pocket money. And it was two pounds and 11 pence back in 1971. At the Sine Electric shop in Broomhill 1971. It's Rod Stewart from the album Every Picture Tells A Story with Reason To Believe."

Show Outro

"And that my friends, all the way from Santiago in Chile, is about it for this particular week. And I'm not breathless which in itself is a pleasure. I shall be back with you next week at exactly the same time all the way from Fort Lauderdale in Florida.

"So until then I shall leave you with this. We started the show off with a band called The Clash. Who were the leaders of what we'd call the New Wave Punk movement. But never saw them on Top Of The Pops did we. No we didn't. But we saw this lot on Top Of The Pops. And they were magnificent. They were Eddie And The Hot Rods and this is Do Anything You Wanna Do. Until next week see ya!."
