Show Intro

"Greetings my fellow music lovers and welcome once again to The Joe Elliott Show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock. And this is a very special Joe Elliott Show because it is my best of the year. Best of 2021 where I have resisted all urges to play maybe a re-release. I was very tempted I have to say by The Rolling Stones. The box set for Tattoo You has got some unreleased music but it is from 1981. So I have chosen music from 40 years later than that date. Listen I hope you are having the best Christmas you could possibly have. Let's get this show on the road. A little bit of anarchy and unity. This is VEGA."

VEGA

"They keep getting better and better with every release. I have to say even back in the days of 2010 I thought there was something there but every time they out an album out they surpass the work that they've done before. So yes in my humble opinion their latest album Anarchy And Unity is their best work. They are VEGA and the song we just heard the song that just opened the show, Sooner Or Later."

Cheap Trick

"Now anyone that listens to this show on a regular basis will already know that this next band are one of my favourite bands of all time. They continue to make great music. Which is an absolute blessing for all of us. This is Cheap Trick."

"And before that we heard Cheap Trick. Again as I've always said one of my favourite bands of all time. From their latest album In Another World. The song we heard Here's Looking At You."

Styx

"From their latest album The Crash Of The Crown that is Styx doing a fairly good impersonation of The Who to be quite honest. It's a wonderful piece of work called To Those."

The Pretty Reckless

"Well seeing as it's still sort of Christmas time I think it's only fair that we can actually mention the fact that the young lady we're about to hear has come a long way since as a ten year old child she played Cindy in the Grinch movie. Yes Taylor Momsen. Here she is fronting the fantastic band that is The Pretty Reckless."

"Before that The Pretty Reckless fronted by Taylor Momsen. As I mentioned in the introduction once the star of the Grinch movie as little Cindy. With the title track from their latest album Death By Rock And Roll."

Wayward Sons

"I think I mentioned at the time of its original release that young Toby Jepson thinks that that's the best thing that he's ever written. And who am I to argue with the actual songwriter himself. It is a fantastic bit of work. It is the Wayward Sons from their latest album Even Up The Score. The song is Faith In Fools."

"You are listening to The Joe Elliott Show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock. Coming up the outsider who is Roger Taylor."

Roger Taylor

"And before that Roger Taylor from his latest solo album The Outsider with a very drum heavy, as you'd expect, More Kicks."

The Warning

"That is a band called The Warning. An all female three piece power trio from Mexico. Who opened for Def Leppard about four tears ago when they were in their mid to late teens. Fantastic musicianship. The song that we just heard Choke."

The Stranglers

"Now 2021 saw its fair share of rock deaths and I'm sure some of them had a profound effect on all of us one way or another. For me personally it was Dave Greenfield the legendary keyboard player. Now his band were actually in the middle of making a new album during lock down when he passed away. So while they finished the album off. They wrote a very beautiful and dignified tribute to their phenomenal and long term keyboard player. They are The Stranglers."

"And before that we heard The Stranglers from the album Dark Matters. With the beautiful tribute to Dave Greenfield. And I love the fact it actually would bring a tear to a tear to a glass eye that they sing in the middle of the song 'and this is where your solo would go'. It's really just beautiful. The song that we heard And If You Should See Dave."

Robert Plant/Alison Krauss

"So of course when two of my favourite singers get together to make yet another album I'm gonna feature a song on my show. I spoke with Robert Plant a few months ago before the album came out. We never discuss music. We only ever discuss football. But he did happen to drop the hint that he thought that the new album was much better than the first album Raising Sand. And I tend to agree with him. I've listened to the album quite a lot. Robert's voice on this record is absolutely phenomenal. As is Alison Krauss. So yes there's your clue. it is Robert Plant and Alison Krauss from an album called Raise The Roof. The song that we just heard Go Your Way.

Mick Jagger/Dave Grohl

"So if proof was ever needed that you're never too old to rock here it is. Featuring Dave Grohl. This is Mick Jagger."

"And before that Sir Mick Jagger featuring Dave Grohl on every instrument except for of course Mick Jagger's voice and his rhythm guitar. With a fantastic and all things COVID rant called Eazy Sleazy."

Guns N' Roses

"The first time that Slash, Axl and Duff have been featured together on a studio recording in 28 years. So for that reason alone I had to play it didn't I. I believe it's actually a left over from the Chinese Democracy session. That I'm guessing Duff and Slash went yeah I think we could do this. And aren't we glad that they did. It is Guns N' Roses. The song Hard Skool."

Show Outro

"And that my friends is about it for this particular show. What a way to end the year with all these great songs. I'm really torn as to what is my favourite song of the year. The one that we just heard Eazy Sleazy is pretty close. The one that I'm gonna end with is pretty close. It's kind of a tie. But here's the big thing. They both feature Dave Grohl. And I have to end with this one because this is my favourite ever Foo Fighters song. It's just amazing.@

And all I can say is here's to a better 2022. I'll see you next week for more of the same only a little bit different."

"Till then here we are from Medicine At Midnight. This is the Foo Fighters with Waiting On A War. Happy New Year and till next week see ya!."
