Show Intro

"Greetings my fellow music lovers and welcome once again to the Joe Elliott Show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock. It is always a pleasure to be with you. Albeit this week it is tinged with a certain amount of sadness because as you all know out there this week we lost one of the absolute greats of rock and roll Mr. Charlie Watts. So this show is pretty much a dedication to Charlie Watts. I'm not playing an hour's worth if Rolling Stones music. But I wll say these four words. Let there be drums."

The Rolling Stones

"Well it does make total sense to open the show with a Rolling Stones song that actually starts with Charlie Watt's drum break. That from the album December's Children is indeed The Rolling Stones with one of the greatest hits that they ever had Get Off Of My Cloud."

Jook

"More Rolling Stones in a little while but until for the likes of Ian Hampton and Trevor White. There was life before Sparks with this lot. This is Jook."

"And before that Jook hailing out of Scotland. And featuring future members of Sparks amongst their line up. The album is Different Class. The song we heard Bish Bash Bosh."

Def Leppard

"As I said at the top of the show let there be drums. And yes most of the songs if not all the songs tonight do feature the drums a little more than normal. There from the Mirrorball album in 2011. One of the three new songs that were recorded to tag on to the end of the live section. That is Def Leppard with Undefeated."

The Rolling Stones

"Now back to the Stones. With a bit of Doom And Gloom."

"And before that once again The Rolling Stones from 2012. A brand new song that was put on to their Grrr... collection. The Jeff Basker remix of the track Doom And Gloom."

The Who

"Two very contrasting styles of drumming there. Both genius and sadly now both no longer with us. That from 1973 is The Who from Quadrophenia with Bell Boy. And wasn't Keith Moon on form on that particular song."

"You're listening to The Joe Elliott Show on the wonderful Planet Rock. Celebrating the life and times of one Mr. Charlie Watts. Coming up a plea from the horned one downstairs."

The Rolling Stones

"And before that The Rolling Stones with a truly brilliant bit of work. It will go down in history in rock as one of the greatest songs of all time. It's from the album Beggar's Banquet. It is Sympathy For The Devil."

Ron Wood

"If you heard the Charlie Watts special on Planet Rock a couple of days ago. You'll have heard the story of that song. If not I shall briefly tell it again. Just after Def Leppard finished recording Adrenalize at the end of '91 I got invited by Ronnie Wood. Who was living about 40 minutes away from me at the time to come and do a bit of singing on his solo album he was just recording. And when I got over there who was also with him?. But Charlie Watts. they wanted me to sing backing vocals on the song we just heard. but they hadn't recorded the backing track. So knowing that I could play a tiny bit of guitar he said well then you can probably play a tiny bit of bass. So the next day I come back into the studio and say to the guys you're not gonna believe what happened last night. There I was playing bass in Ronnie Wood's house with Ronnie on guitar and Charlie Watts on the drums. Just so we could do the backing vocals about five minutes later. The album is Slide On This. It did come out in 1992. It is Ronnie Wood. The song Show Me."

Styx

"Right changing tack some what for a little bit and bringing it bang up to date. This is absolute brand new Styx."

"And before that brand new Styx. The album is called The Crash Of The Crown. The song we heard To Those."

Whitesnake

"Originally released in 1997. That is the title track of the Whitesnake album Restless Heart. But that is the 2021 remix. Hoe good does that sound."

The Ramones

"So in complete contrast although it is still all about the kick, snare and Hi-hat. This is The Ramones."

"And before that The Ramones from 1977. From the album Rocket To Russia with the fantastically titled Teenage Lobotomy.

John Lennon

"I remember thinking at the time when I first heard that song it was one of the biggest drum sounds that I have ever heard. That is from the Ultimate Collection Plastic Ono Band album. The 6 CD version of the album. It is John Lennon with Instant Karma (We All Shine On)."

Show Outro

"And that my friends is about it for this week. Charlie Watts you shall be sadly missed. You were absolutely without a shadow of a doubt one of the greatest back beat drummers of all time. And by far the best dressed drummer ever."

"I shall be back with you next week at exactly the same time. So until then I'm gonna leave you with one of my favourite Rolling Stone's songs pf all time. We're gonna revisit once again the album Beggar's Banquet and listen to the immortal bit of work that is Street Fighting Man. Charlie Watts rest in peace.
