Show Intro

"Evening all and welcome once again to The Joe Elliott Show, right here on the wonderful Planet Rock. Always a pleasure to be with you, I've only got 60 minutes, one hour, but I've got some fantastic music in my humble opinion to play for you tonight, so where are we gonna start? Let's go back to 1977, the debut album of a band called The Clash."

The Clash

"Yep, I remember a long time ago hearing a demo of the original version of that by a band called The Bobby Fuller Four. Now, I never thought of bands from the early 60s doing demos, but I guess they did. And this one leaked out and it was absolutely phenomenal, as is the version that we just heard from their debut album released back in 1977, we just heard The Clash with I Fought The Law."

Bryan Ferry

"Now, the humble trumpet doesn't play much of a role in rock, but when it is used, it can be to great effect, as demonstrated on these next couple of tunes, starting off with Bryan Ferry."

"And before that, Bryan Ferry from one of his early solo albums back in 1973, the album is Let's Stick Together, the song we heard cover of an old Everly Brothers tune, The Price Of Love."

The Beatles

"Magnificent stuff there from the Fab Four, taken from their recently re-released collections, 62 to 66 and 67 to 70, that is from the first one, remixed by Giles Martin, the son of the late great Beatles producer Sir George, the song that we heard Got To Get You Into My Life."

The Animals

"Now, that was a nice couple of tunes shedding the light on the horn section for a change. Here's a couple of tunes that shed the light on somebody and that somebody is Chas Chandler. He was the bass player in The Animals, he would go on later on in his career to manage Jimi Hendrix and Slade. Here's a couple of tunes that feature Chas Chandler at his very best."

"And before that, we heard The Animals from the best of the 60s, I think it's called the Best 60s Album In The World Ever. The song We Got To Get Out Of This Place, both songs featuring in their own way, Chas Chandler, the Slade song produced by The Animals song, insanely brilliant bass playing by Chas Chandler. Well done him."

Slade

"One of the greatest pieces of work that that band ever put together, wonderful stuff there from Slade, taken from their best of collection Common Fielder Hits, the song How Does It Feel, which originally featured on the soundtrack for the movie Slade In Flame, mostly shot in Sheffield, I believe, 1974, when they were rock stars and actors. Good for them. It's actually not a bad movie at all."

"You are listening to The Joe Elliott Show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock. Coming up there, but for the grace of God, goes Fish."

Fish

"And before that, we heard Fish from an album which I couldn't pronounce when it first came out and I still can't. I do believe it's something along the lines of Welschmerz, which I do see he's actually going to be able to take on the road now because he's finally got dates on sale for his farewell tour. I wish him all the best on that tour. He's such a great performer and the song that we heard all eight minutes and 18 seconds of it, The Grace Of God."

Doctors Of Madness

"Having been a fan of that band since I saw them open for Be Bop Deluxe back in 1976, it was such an honor to be asked by Richard Kidd Strange, would I sing on a couple of tracks with him? I think I sang on six of the nine tracks from the album Dark Times. What an honour. It is The Doctors Of Madness, the song that we just heard Blood Brother."

Marillion

"Well having just heard Fish, let's go back to the band where we first discovered him. Yep, this is Marillion."

"And before that, we heard Marillion taken from their album This Strange Engine, the song we heard, 80 Days."

UFO

"Now, I'm sure like me, you've read articles and magazines or on a website about the greatest guitar solo ever performed, which of course it's nonsense because it's a subjective opinionated monstrosity to even go there. It's normally something like Stairway To Heaven or maybe Black Rose, Smoke On The Water or Free Bird by Lynyrd Skynyrd. For me, it's every single guitar solo played by Mick Ronson on Ian Hunter's debut album back in 1975, so each to their own. But it's hard to pass up the one that we just heard. Absolutely magnificent work by Michael Schenker. It's from the 1975 album Force It. It is UFO with the song Out In The Street."

Show Outro

"And that my friends is about it for this week, been a real pleasure as always, but we knew that didn't we? I shall be back with you next week at exactly the same time."

"So until then, don't go anywhere and listen to this. Just released last year as a, I believe 50th anniversary would be of the album Who's Next, This is The Who, but it's the Steve Wilson remix of the legendary piece of work called Baba O'Reilly. Until next week, see ya!."
