Show Intro

"Greetings one and all and welcome to the Joe Elliott Christmas show. I hope you're all in a festive mood like I am and let's just for a little while pretend that this is a two hour show. You've just heard The Darkness, because forever we do not want the bells to end. The Pogues with Kirsty McCall, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Elton John, The Pretenders, Jethro Tull, Greg Lake and of course Wizard and Slade. Did you enjoy that?"

"Great, now let's play some proper music shall we? They've just finished a handful of dates in the UK that went so well they're gonna come back next year and the year after and do them again. This is The Almighty."

The Almighty

"I am so happy for Ricky and Floyd and Stumpy and Tantrum that they've got back together to do these shows. I saw the reviews, I've seen the reaction online, absolutely fantastic that they're back together and they've made so many people happy which is probably why they're going to come back and do it again. There from the deluxe re-release of the album Soul Destruction we just heard The Almighty with Joy Bang One Time."

The Rolling Stones

"Now it may well be Christmas but we have a very significant birthday to celebrate so please be upstanding and salute the legend that is Keith Richard."

"And before that 80 years young, happy birthday Keith, fantastic stuff and still obviously very capable of making some extraordinarily brilliant music. Just listen to Hackney Diamonds for the proof. But then back to I believe it was about 1969 from the album Let It Bleed we just heard the wonderful Gimme Shelter."

The Motors

"Wonderful stuff there from The Motors produced as it happens by one Mr Robert John Mutt Lange from their debut album. It was also the b-side of their first ever single Dance in the Night Away. The song is Whiskey And Wine."

Steely Dan

"Right then zooming from 69 to 1972 let's see what those showbiz kids were up to. This is Steely Dan."

"And before that we heard Steely Dan. Wonderful stuff they're out at the moment opening for The Eagles believe it or not. From the album Showbiz Kids we just heard Reeling In The Years."

Boz Scaggs

"Still a very popular live attraction in the US these days but that's one of his few hits from the UK back in 1976 from the album Silk Degrees. It is Boz Scaggs with Lido Shuffle."

"You are listening to the Joe Elliott Christmas Show which has absolutely no Christmas songs in it whatsoever. Coming up Ex Gong guitarist covers Britain's answer to Bob Dylan."

Steve Hillage

"And before that Steve Hillage. Wonderful stuff from the album L 1976 it was released. The entire band on that album was Utopia and it was actually produced by Todd Rundgren so it's kind of like a Utopia album but with Steve Hillage playing guitar and singing. The song we heard, cover of an old Donovan classic, Hurdy Gurdy Man."

Billy Preston

"Cor blimey, haven't heard that for a long time. Wonderful stuff he once played with The Beatles. He once played with The Rolling Stones but then he went solo and had a huge hit. It is Billy Preston. Title track of the album That's The Way God Planned It."

Utopia

"Well seeing as we just heard Utopia moonlighting on a Steve Hillage album let's give them their own four minutes and 44 seconds shall we."

"And before that we heard Utopia from the 1977 album Ra with Jealousy."

Peter Gabriel

"He has a new album out that I'm still getting my head around but no doubt I shall be playing something from it early next year. So until then I thought let's go back to the debut album 1977. Saw him live at the Sheffield City Hall and it was fantastic. Produced by Bob Ezrin of Kiss, Pink Floyd and Alice Cooper fame that is Peter Gabriel from the album. Peter Gabriel which you can say for the first three at least. The song is a wonderful piece of work called Modern Love."

Show Outro

"And that my friends, from this very special Christmas edition of The Joe Elliott Show ho ho ho, is about it for this week. It's been a real pleasure as always I shall be back with you next week at exactly the same time with my round-up show my best of 2023. And I should warn you now, apologies to many artists that I couldn't squeeze in, been some great music made this year but I only have 60 minutes."

"So until then I'm going to leave you with this. Now I normally as you know like to go out on a bit of a stonker but maybe it's just the time of year maybe it's the mulled wine but I'm going to go out on a nice chilled out instrumental and it's a wonderful bit of work from the 1977 album Making Magic. This is Pat Travers and What You Mean To Me. Until next week Merry Christmas have a great time and see ya!."
