Show Intro

"Greetings everyone and welcome once again to The Joe Elliott Show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock. Now full disclosure I am recording this show just before we do The Leadmill on Friday night. So let's hope it went well. There is a Jazz band underneath my window in this hotel. Blaring away. Saxophones galore. Sounds magic. Just hope i doesn't interfere with the 60 minutes worth of music that I am about to unleash on you tonight. Including some stuff from the brand new album by Def Leppard Drastic Symphonies. In fact let's start the show with one. So shall we get on to our Persian rug, close your eyes, light the incense and check this out."

Def Leppard

"Originally featured on the 1996 Slang album that is Def Leppard with a twist. Because that is a version that we recorded with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra for our latest album which came out this Friday gone. Drastic Symphonies. In fact it is the opening track. We wanted to make a bit of a statement. It was a deep deep cut. It's not an album of greatest hits with just an orchestra slapped on top. We deconstructed these songs. Reconstructed them and then we watched The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra put their parts on at Abbey Road studios. Home of you know who. Yes taht band who recorded most of their great work there. It is the opening track of the album as I said. It's Drastic Symphonies. The song Turn To Dust. And more of that later on."

Jethro Tull

"Right now we're gonna go to a band with another brand new record out. But I've been listening to this lot for over 50 years. This is Jethro Tull."

"And before that we heard brand new Jethro Tull. From an album called RökFlöte. I suppose it's really supposed to be Rock Flute. I mean he does play a flute after all. It's the first track to be released from the album It is called The Navigators."

Luke Morley

"Now as most of you will know already Danny Bowes from Thunder had a terrible accident a little while ago. And he's still on the road to recovery. But he is recovering. But sadly not in any kind of condition yet to tour or work with Thunder. So while Danny recovers Luke Morley has decided to record a solo album. And that is the first single from the upcoming album. Great bit of work and a fantastic title Killed By Cobain. Great song Luke well done."

Mike Campbell & The Dirty Knobs

"And while that Jazz band peskily plays away on the pavement below me Let's listen to some Mike Campbell with his Dirty Knobs."

"And before that we heard Mike Campbell with his Dirty Knobs. Say no more!. The album External Combustion. The song that we heard Cheap Talk."

Cat Stevens

"Yet another artist that I have been listening to for over 50 years because I was such a fan of Island Records. The label he was signed to. They used to do the greatest compilation records. Things like El Pea. Bumpers, Nice Enough To Eat. And Tea For The Tillerman is the album that that track was taken from. The artist is Cat Stevens. And this is a 50th anniversary version of Tea For The Tillerman that's got the original album remastered. And a 2020 remix. That's what we just heard. The song Sad Lisa."

"You are listening to the Joe Elliott Show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock. Coming to you this week all he way from my hotel room in Sheffield. With a Jazz band underneath my window. Coming up some more Drastic Symphonies."

Def Leppard

"And before that more Def Leppard from the album Drastic Symphonies. Now there's a litte story behind this one that you may have read about if you follow the band. It's a track originally on the 1983 album Pyromania. We swapped out the guitars at the beginning and put some cellos. And when we brought my original vocals in it was just way too bombastic. So I decided on this very microphone that I'm talking to you with right noe. On this very laptop that I'm recording on. To re-sing it. And then I get to the end bit where there's a two part harmony that's normally myself and Phil Collen. And I just automatically went for the one that Phil did. And found myself duetting with my self from 1982 when it was recorded. A very bizarre, messing with the head, let's put it that way. But in a good way. It was such fun to do. Phil had no problem with it and it makes for an interesting story. It is the Drastic Symphonies version of Too Late For Love."

Fleetwood Mac

"From the album of the same name that is Fleetwood Mac with a fantastic bit of work called Rhiannon. Good grief do I love Stevie Nicks' voice on that particular song."

The Faces

"Right well enough of Drastic Symphonies for now. Look out there's gonna be a Borstal breakout. This is The Faces."

"And before that Ooh la la indeed. It is The Faces featuring of course Rod Stewart with Borstal Boys."

The Rolling Stones

"It has to go down as one of my favourite ever Rolling Stones songs. It is just superb and that bizarre guitar sound that Keith Richards achieved on that particular record. Apparently was done because he plugged into a tape recorder. And got some kind of backward phasing effect. Which is pretty difficult to replicate ever again so very unique. It's The Rolling Stones from the album Beggars Banquet with Street Fighting Man."

Show Outro

"And that my friends is about it for this week. All the way from my hotel room in Sheffield. As we're about to kick off the European tour and have just played The Leadmill. If you know what I mean.

"So until next week I shall leave you with this. From their best of collection. This is one of those bands that tried to kick every piece of music that ever came before them into touch. They didn't quite achieve it but they made a hell of a noise trying. This is The Damned and New Rose. Till next week see ya!."
