Show Intro

"So can I say one thing before we get started tonight. I actually detest January. Not a fan at all. And it's got nothing to do with the fact that it's the month straight after Christmas. The big downer after the holidays. It's more to do with the fact that the month of January seems to be more than any other, the month that the grim reaper decides to harvest some of our most fantastic musicians. And nothing has changed because just a couple of days ago we lost one of the most iconic and important rock musicians to ever play a guitar. I'm of course talking about Jeff Beck. "

"Hi everyone. I'm Joe Elliott Joe Elliott. This is the wonderful Planet Rock. And tonight mostly we're gonna be celebrating the life and times of Jeff Beck. Jeff Beck the band member. The solo artist. The collaborator and the guest. Starting off with this fantastic bit of work written for him by his life long friend Jimmy Page. This is Beck's Bolero."

Jeff Beck

"One of the greatest rock instrumentals of all time. Brilliantly written by Jimmy Page. Brilliantly performed by Jeff Beck. It is from the album Truth. It is Beck's Bolero. And we're gonna be hearing a lot more Jeff Beck associated music as the show rolls along."

Boston

"But for right now here's a little bit of Boston for ya."

"And before that from their eponymously titled debut album we heard Boston with Peace Of Mind."

Foo Fighters

"Well some good news this week is the fact that the Foo Fighters have announced that they are gonna carry on after all. They haven't announced who the replacement is for Taylor Hawkinns yet. So I guess we're just gonna have to wait and see. But there they are from the album The Color And The Shape with New Way Home."

Jeff Beck

"Now here's a song that was originally recorded by The Yardbirds. But then reimagined and reworked with Rod Stewart on lead vocals for the first Jeff Beck Group album."

"And before that the opening track of his first Jeff Beck Group album Truth. Featuring Rod Stewart on vocals. A mighty nighty brilliant re-recording of the old Yardbirds classic Shapes Of Things."

Jeff Beck/Johnny Depp

"One of the more recent recordings released by Jeff Beck. A collaboration with his new BFF as it was at the time Johnny Depp. It is a cover of a song written and recorded originally by John Lennon. It is Isolation."

"You are listening to the Joe Elliott Show on the wonderful Planet Rock. This week celebrating the music of Jeff Beck. Coming up we're gonna take you all the way back to 1973. The Hammersmith Odeon. And the very last performance ever of David Bowie And The Spiders From Mars."

David Bowie

"And before that at last it gets an official release. From the original soundtrack of Moonage Daydream. The last ever performance of David Bowie And The Spiders From Mars. Featuring Jeff Beck. We heard the live version Medley of Jean Genie /Love Me Do."

Jeff Beck

"Another beautiful instrumental there from the legendary Jeff Beck. Once covered actually by Phil on the tribute album Jeffology. Along with Vivian's version of Led Boots. Both of those songs would feature as bonus material on Def Leppard's 1996 album Slang. But there is the master himself live at the Hollywood Bowl with Cause We've Ended As Lovers."

BeBop Deluxe

"OK so now to a couple of great guitarists that thankfully are still with us. Starting off with Bill Nelson. This is BeBop Deluxe."

"And before that we heard BeBop Deluxe from 1976. The album is Sunburst Finish. The song we heard, big hit single for them at the time, Ships In The Night."

Brian May

"From 1998's Another World album. That is Brian May featuring Jeff Beck. With a song called The Guv'nor. Which just happens to be the nickname that they gave to each other. Talk about mutual appreciation society."

Show Outro

"And that my friends on what has been a rather sad week for rock music, is about it. I shall be back with you next week at exactly the same time.

"So until then I shall leave you with this. Having announced at the top of the show that I detest January Jeff Beck himself wasn't too keen on this next song. But I'm gonna play it anyway. And I think you can probably guess what it is. Heard at various football grounds around the country on Saturdays. Including one in Sheffield. This is Jeff Beck and Hi Ho Silver Lining. Until next week see ya!."
