The Stadium Tour 2023

Joe said the band will play Europe and in 2023 and specifically in Germany.

This follows the news via his radio show that the tour will hit the UK in 2023.

He also recently said the tour will last for up to three years taking it into 2024.

In 2019 the band played two Germany stadiums with Bon Jovi in Dusseldorf and Munich which seem likely venues for The Stadium Tour.

Joe Elliott/Radio 21 - April 2022 Quotes - (Transcribed by dltourhistory)

European Tour In 2023/First German Shows

"Yes I could. I can't give you a specific date or dates. But we are bringing this tour, god willing, to Europe in 2023."

Memories Of Playing In Germany?

"Got plenty of them they're not always good. Some of them are pretty grim like 1981."

"We were opening for Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow and we literally flew in the day after we finished recording the High 'n' Dry album. So we hadn't had a chance to rehearse and I do believe that first gig was in Essen. We literally walked on stage, no soundcheck. And we hadn't played a gig in over a year."

"So you can imagine it was, it was a disaster. And I know that the reviews were awful. I couldn't read them 'cause they were in German. But everybody was telling, I was like 'So what's the review saying?' and they're going you really don't want to know. Looking at that's now 41 years ago and it's a, it's a distant memory. That's become a bit of an anecdote within the band."

Monsters Of Rock 1986

"But you've got to look at the Monsters Of Rock shows in 1986. Which were recorded in the middle of the Hysteria album. You know we needed a break. We were getting what we like to call cabin fever."

"We'd been in the studio for two years and we were nowhere near finished. And this opportunity to to play four shows. One in Sweden, one in England and two in Germany with the Scorpions, Ozzy Osbourne you know. I mean it was it was a great bunch of bands."

"I think maybe Accept were on the bill. I can't remember actually. And there's a photograph in the middle in the inner sleeve of the Hysteria album of Def Leppard on stage in Germany. And it had been raining all the way through our set."

"So all the equipment is covered in plastic. So of course the sound can't really penetrate the plastic. So it doesn't sound great. Everybody's drenched and then right at the end of the set for the encore the sun came out and the rain stopped."

"And Ross Halfin took this great photograph of Steve Clark and Phil in kilts messing about on stage. Steam rising off the audience and we actually i think we named we named the photograph Life At The Top with Def Leppard 1986."

Importance To Hysteria Recording

"And it really was, it just summed up the way things were going for us. It was, we're making the best of a bad situation with the awful weather and halfway through this album."

"But those gigs were fantastic because the German audiences had a lot of Americans in there because of the fact that there's, there was a lot of Army folk based in Germany. And the Pyromania album had been massive in America."

"So there was the German fans and the American fans all mingled together making a lot of noise. And it just gave us our confidence and when we went back in to start recording Hysteria again after those shows. We were like ten feet tall."

"We were full of beans because we felt good you know we've got a great reaction from the crowds. And it just gave us some energy to go back and finish this album. And had we not done those shows who knows what that album would have turned out like."

The Stadium Tour 2023/End Message To German Fans

"This is Joe from Def Leppard thanks for listening. See you on the road in 2023."
