Def Leppard 1981

Def Leppard's classic High 'n' Dry album was certified Gold in the USA on this day in 1982.

The album had been released in the USA on 21st July to coincide with their US tour supporting Ozzy Osbourne.

The second studio album from the band would be their first to go Gold in the USA.

It was certified Gold for sales of over 500,000 copies on 17th December 1982.

This success was based on the playing of the 'Bringin' On The Heartbreak' promo video by MTV.

The success of the video prompted a resurgence in sales for the album as the band were finishing up the recording of 'Pyromania'.

That album would go not only Gold in 1983 but also multi platinum with sales of over six million copies by the time their accompanying world tour finished in early 1984.
