"State of Euphoria"
After returning to the classic Lep sound on the album the band returned to the road. Originally planning to use a big light/laser show again they ended up using a
'back-to-basics' set up and taking along a huge Union Jack as a back drop. Following some summer promo dates including the EdgeFest the band started a 3 month
US tour in Caddott, WI, taking in festivals, arenas and State Fairs. During the encore at the Allentown Fair show Tesla guitarist Frank Hannon got up to jam on the encore of 'Let It Go'.
His then side-band Moon Dog Mane opened for most of this leg.
"Destination Anywhere"
In September the band headed off to Japan once again playing 8 shows. In true Japanese style each show was recorded by fans. One gig in Tokyo was recorded for broadcast on Japanese TV channel WOWOW. Another DVD 'in-waiting' - the footage showcased the band's energetic performance on this tour. No solos or room between songs just one song after another for almost two hours. Next for the band was a UK arena tour beginning in Wales. Another headline show at Wembley Arena followed with the band adding 'Wasted' as a rare treat for the encore. Something they also did for their hometown show in Sheffield.
The lyric 'destination anywhere' was given added meaning when the band headed off for two quick shows in the Middle Eastern country, United Arab Emirates. The band played two well recieved shows in Abu Dhabi and Dubai. The band's first (and likely only) visit to the region.
"Welcome To The 21st Century"
After a brief break the tour continued with radio/promo shows in the US in early December. The band played with many different artists including, Train, Jewel and Jessica Simpson and not forgetting Shaggy... The band's arena dates kicked off again on December 28th 1999 in Cedar Rapids. Three shows with 80s rockers Dokken in support after the band's original choice Mötley Crüe couldn't make the shows. The band then welcomed in the new year - and century with a sold out show at the 18,000 capacity Allstate Arena in Chicago. Big Ben's chimes sounded at midnight before Joe led the band into the only recorded playing of '21st Century Sha La La La Girl'. At the shows end hundreds of specially printed Def Leppard Dollars were showered on the crowd (see eBay).
The successful run of shows dubbed the 'Guilty Tour' took the band back into Canada before ending in Portland, ME. On 10th January the tour bus was broken into before a show in Kelowna, BC. Phil Collen had various personal items stolen, some of which were later recovered. Joe took the time to slag the culprits off in a 4-letter onstage rant (captured on tape). Six further shows were cancelled and the band then began an unusual 4 month break from touring. Joe taking the time to make his acting debut on the Isle Of Man...'apparently'.
"Demolition Men"
July of 2000 saw the band back in the USA for just over two months of outdoor shows. By now the band had brought 'Gods Of War' and 'Excitable' back into the setlist. On Sep 2nd in Salem, OR the band were forced by local officials to keep
their PA sound at a lower level than normal. Fans were offered refunds but only a few took up the offer. All due to a recent overley loud performance by...MC Hammer (Stop!....Hammer time) Later in the same month they returned to the legendary Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Denver for the first time since 1988. The tour
would conclude with a headline date at the Big E Festival on Sep 30 in West Springfield, MA.
A planned festival appearance in Detroit in Dec was cancelled before the band made the unsual step (at that point) of playing a gig outside of a tour in March 2001. They played at the Houston Rodeo in the huge indoor Astrodome. 50,000+ fans watched the band perform on a unique revolving circular stage for a brief 1 hour hits performance. Equaling their biggest US crowd to date (San Diego 1983). The only time the band have come close to an in the round show since 1993.
