Def Leppard performed Hysteria on the USA version of Top Of The Pops on this day in 1988 with video available.

The performance was originally broadcast in February 1988.

Hysteria Top Of The Pops USA 1988

The USA version of Top of The Pops was hosted by Nia Peeples and ran for 26 episodes from 25th September 1987 to 18th March 1988.

It was broadcast by CBS at the odd time of midnight and featured a mix of performances, video clips and the chart rundowns seen on the UK version but with a running time of 60 minutes.

Def Leppard performed on the show twice and taped both performances in December 1987 at CBS Television Studios in Los Angeles.

'Hysteria' was aired on 12th February 1988 when it was the current single.

'Animal' had been shown on the 4th December 1987 episode when it was also the current USA single.

Some of the footage from these performances were used by the band for the 1993 'Switch 625' tribute video for Steve Clark on the 'Visualize' VHS video.

The band also appeared on show #3 on 9th October 1987 when the UK TOTP performance of 'Pour Some Sugar On Me' was included.

Animal Top Of The Pops USA 1987

This first performance was broadcast in December 1987 on a show that also featured Richard Marx and Icehouse.

The second performance on Top Of The Pops after the UK one in August 1987.

Full Songs/Joe Live Vocals

Unlike the UK version of the show at this time both songs were played in full and featured Joe on live lead vocals.

The UK show did not featured live lead vocals or full live performances until the late 90s.

1987 Show Intro Footage/Christmas Message

The playlist also includes other footage taped at this show including the Christmas message and the slightly odd 'Edith Quisenberry' introduction segment.

This footage was added to the band's official YouTube account 15 years ago and was the opening to the 4th December 1987 show.

Featuring a lady from Colorado who had presumably won a contest and introduced the band backstage.

Def Leppard went on to play her hometown of Grand Junction, CO in 2007 on the Downstage Thrust tour.

The Christmas message was likely shown on one of the December 1987 shows.
