Def Leppard singer Joe Elliott appeared on BBC 6 Music earlier this week to pick a headbanger song for Steve Lamacq.

'Diamond Star Halos' is the band's 12th studio album.

The album was announced on 17th March and then released on Friday 27th May 2022.

Joe appeared on the Steve Lamacq show on BBC 6 Music ealier this week and took part in their Download Festival week specials.

Joe picked the KISS song Shout It Out Loud as his headbanger choice.

The Download Festival takes place from 10th to 12th June with KISS headlining last night and Iron Maiden tonight.

Right here's someone - we were delighted when, we came up with obviously the week of headbanger's and we thought we're not gonna pick them ourselves. We need some expert advice here. And we were absolutely delighted when this chap was the first person to return our call. From the band who were one of the headliners at Download back in 2019. Who released their 12th studio album Diamond Star halos just a couple of weeks ago. Ladies and gentleman it's only Joe Elliott.

Joe Elliott - "Hi ya Steve. Joe Elliott from Def Leppard here. Now I'm delighted to have been asked to choose a headbanger for you this week. So today I would like to play this. From the 1976 album Destroyer this is KISS with Shout It Out Loud."

Joe Elliott - "Now why do I love this song so much?. It takes me back obviously to my youth. 16 years old in Sheffield. Summer was coming. Punk hadn't quite taken off."

Joe Elliott - "But there was this band. Full size poster in Bradley's Records on Far Gate in Sheffield staring at me. I'm thinking well if they sound anything like they look this is gonna be great."

Joe Elliott - "And it's a fantastic pop rock song. If you listen carefully to the vocal arrangement it's actually a Tamala Motown song. You can easily hear The Four Tops or The Temptations giving this some. So here we go KISS and Shout It Out Loud."

One of the bands who are playing this year's Download. They headline Friday night at Donington Park. That's KISS as chosen by Joe Elliott from Def Leppard.
