DEF LEPPPARD In DUBLIN, IRELAND On THE WORLD TOUR 2023 (Show Report/Setlist)

Def Leppard played another show on The World Tour 2023 last night in Dublin, Ireland with 17 songs performed.

The show took place at the 40,000 capacity Marlay Park.

The first show in this city since December 2018.

The first appearance at this venue.

The weather forecast was not good.

Dublin In The Rain

And by the time Def Leppard came out to close the show it was raining heavily and it continued to rain throughout the show.

Not quite Atlanta 2022 but still very wet for the crowd.

From the winds of Lytham to the rains of Dublin.

It was raining throughout the night in the UK too so they were not alone, and had the bonus of watching the show live.

First Outdoor Show In Ireland

Having played Dublin since February 1983 this was the very first outdoor show to be played here by the full band.

Joe played to over 100,000 people at Phoenix Park in 1991 with the Hothouse Flowers but never played outdoors here with Def Leppard.

As has become a habit now, another great performance before the biggest crowd the band have played to in Joe's adopted second home city.

In fact his home is located about 10 minutes away from this venue so he didn't have a long way to go after the show.

Let's hope they haven't looked at the forecast for Glasgow which looks like it could be worse than Dublin.

Festival Staging

After five or six solo headline shows here in June the venue hosted the annual Longitude Festival on 1st and 2nd July and the staging was borrowed by Def Leppard for this show.

Including two massive curved video screens either side of the stage.

As seen in the many Fan Videos they were actually bigger than than smaller screen used behind Rick.

Motley Crue Irish Debut

Motley Crue first played the UK in August 1984 at Donington Park for the Monsters Of Rock festival and then a headline show in November at Dominion Theatre in London.

Their not quite "final" UK show was played at Wembley Arena on 6th November 2015.

Surprisingly they had never played in Ireland on any of their UK visits despite having played a few times in Scotland and Wales.

Including the 'Dr. Feelgood' tour when they headlined Wembley Arena for two nights in November 1989 (second night seen by the person writing this).

17 Song Setlist

The same 17 song setlist played once more.

All three 'Diamond Star Halos' songs played in Dublin for the first time.

Dublin History

The band first played in Dublin in February 1983 at the TV Club.

The second show with Phil Collen in the band and a warm-up show for the Pyromania tour.

They came back in August 1986 to play the last of five Irish warm-up shows for the Monsters Of Rock tour at the S.F.X. Hall before a return to open the main Hysteria tour in August 1987 at the same venue.

Vivian Campbell's debut show then took place in April 1992 at the McGonagles Club as a warm-up for the Freddie Mercury Tribute concert.

The first In The Round show outside of the USA and Canada was then played in June 1992 to open the 17 month Adrenalize world tour. This would be the band's first visit to the then named The Point Depot.

The venue was played for a second time in November 1996 on the Slang tour.

A series of smaller scale shows then began in October 1999 on the Euphoria tour at the Olympia Theatre.

Two shows were played at the Ambassador Theatre in February 2003 on the X/Ten world tour.

By June 2009 The Point Theatre had been renovated and relaunched as The O2 in tie for the Sparkle Lounge tour.

Two more shows took place here in June 2011 on the Mirrorball tour and again in December 2015 when it was renamed as 3Arena.

3Arena was played once more on the Hysteria & More tour in December 2018.

Last night's show was the 14th overall performance in Dublin.

The next Def Leppard show takes place in Glasgow, Scotland on 6th July to end this tour leg.
