DEF LEPPPARD Back In BRISBANE On THE WORLD TOUR 2023 (Show Report/Setlist)

Def Leppard played another show on The World Tour 2023 last night in Brisbane, Australia with 17 songs performed.

The show took place at the new 52,500 capacity Suncorp Stadium.

The first show in this city since November 2018.

The first show of the three date Australian tour leg to round off The World Tour in 2023.

Def Leppard Down Under.

Brisbane Return

A return to the East Coast of Australia and the sunshine of Brisbane.

Five years after their last visit which saw them perform the full Hysteria album alongside the Scorpions.

Now back to create mass Hysteria in a stadium.

The first ever large stadium show to be played in Australia.

Not counting the smaller stadium shows in Perth in 2008 and 2011 with a capacity of around 9,000 (and in 2011 attended by less than 6,000 people).

39th Anniversary

Not quite 40 years since the first visit to Australia in January/February 1984.

So not Pyromania 40 but #Pyromania39.

The band playing three shows in the country near the very end of the Pyromania tour but close enough to 40 years since making their debut in the country.

With of course three songs played from that album.

The debut in Brisbane would come much later on in 1992.

Def Leppard Closing

Def Leppard appeared, as has been usual, to be closing given their top billing on the show poster.

But the venue decided to keep people guessing by stating the closer would be revealed on the day of the show.

And it turned out to be...Def Leppard as expected.

The first ever outdoor performance in Brisbane taking place on the same date as the 2008 show.

A venue recently played by Sir Paul McCartney on his Got back tour.

The weather was good - sunshine and hot temps as you would expect in Australia. 24C/76F.

No rain delays or lightning storms in OZ!.

Jet Lag And Cricket

Just some jet lag according to Joe and a late night Cricket match watched at 3am.

Joe referenced the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup Semi-Final match in India between Australia and Afghanistan which they won 293 to 291.

Glenn Maxwell apparently scoring over 200 in what's being called one of the greatest performances of all time.

Joe mentioned this during the intro to This Guitar and dedicated the song to him and the whole team.

The band started their show after 9pm in fine form and some fans provided excellent video footage showing the full stage from Vivian's side.

And kept it going all the way until the end of PSSOM.

Another epic performance.

The venue not quite sold out with empty seats at the back of the stadium but a very full floor section with seats and the side seats were also full.

A slightly awkward moment at the end when they ended Photograph with the house lights coming on while they were still on stage doing the end speeches.

Now they move to Sydney for another first stadium show in that city.

17 Song Setlist

The same 17 song setlist played once more.

All three 'Diamond Star Halos' songs played in Brisbane for the first time.

DJ Opener

Like Germany and Yokohama a DJ opened the show from 6pm onwards from the front of the Thrust stage. This time another Virtual DJ.

Bye Bye Motley Crue?

If Joe is to be believed, and why wouldn't he be?, on his latest radio show then these three shows will be the last with Motley Crue.

Despite suggestions by Vince Neil last year that the tour would return to North America in 2024, and by Joe and Phil that they would tour stadiums for "three years", it seems plans may have changed.

The World Tour already not being quite as popular as The Stadium Tour and Motley Crue having announced two shows so far for summer 2024 on their own in USA and Canada.

Def Leppard may be back in arenas (supporting another release of some kind?).

All should be revealed in tour announcements before the end of 2023 (or in early 2024).

Brisbane History

The first visit to Brisbane took place in July 1992 on the first full scale Australian tour using the In The Round stage.

An audience recorded video from the show is available on YouTube and features Sav wearing his cut-off 'Ded Flat Bird' logo Adrenalize shirt.

The locals had to wait until 8th November 2008 for the band to return for a second time at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre.

The third visit came in October 2011 during the Mirrorball tour with Heart at the same venue.

Only three shows were played in Australia in 2015 with Brisbane skipped.

The fourth visit to that venue then happened in November 2018 on the Hysteria & More tour.

Last night's show was the 5th performance in Brisbane.

The next Def Leppard show takes place in Sydney, Australia on 11th November.
