Phil Collen has commented on Def Leppard's new album 'Songs From The Sparkle Lounge'. In a new interview Phil shares some thoughts on the record and it's songs.
Quotes.
"Collen said the "Sparkle Lounge" made the album-making process a lot different from in the past.
"In a sense, it was a lot easier because we didn't have to finish the tour and then start thinking about what direction we wanted a new record to go in," Collen said. "It was already done, and that's what was so cool about it."
With all the songs written, the band - Collen, singer Joe Elliott, drummer Rick Allen, guitarist Vivian Campbell and bassist Rick Savage - holed up in Elliott's studio in Ireland to record it. Collen described it as a diverse record, and Elliott said it has a '70s feel.
The most notable of those unexpected moments comes on the band's first single, "Nine Lives." The song features vocals by country music superstar Tim McGraw.
Collen said he and his band mates actually have known McGraw for a while due to the fact that Allen's brother manages McGraw's tours. The country singer even joined Def Leppard on stage in 2006 on one of the band's most popular songs, "Pour Some Sugar on Me."
"He's such a pleasure to work with, someone who's both inspiring and creative," Collen said of McGraw. "He's just an infectious guy to be around."
Other featured tracks on "Sparkle Lounge" include "Go," a song reminiscent of an earlier hit, "Rocket," and the anthemic "Tomorrow," which Collen wrote about the death of his father.
Collen said the band will play one or two songs from the new record and focus the rest of the show on hit songs."
