Def Leppard recorded a live session at the legendary Abbey Road Studios on this day in 2008.

The session was filmed for the TV show 'Live From Abbey Road' during the week as the UK release 'Songs From The Sparkle Lounge' album.

Two days earlier they had performed a secret show at London's Islington Academy.

The band recorded the session at the legendary London studios on 8th May 2008. Using Studio 2, the same room The Beatles used to record most of their biggest albums in the 1960s.

The show was broadcast on the Sundance Channel in the USA on 31st July 2008 and More4 TV in the UK on 1st August.

Three songs in all were recorded and filmed - 'Rocket', 'Rock On' and 'C'mon C'mon' plus short interviews with the band members.

Five seasons of the show were produced between 2007 and 2012.

The 'Live At Abbey Road Studios' 12 inch vinyl was released in April 2018 for Record Store Day.

All three songs were included having been newly remixed in 2018.

The retro cover art is similar to the Def Leppard EP and features the large logo from the 1980 'On Through The Night' album and 'Hello America' single. Also included is the street sign from the studios in North West London and the same red stamp title seen on 'The Lost Session' iTunes EP from January 2018.

"Joe Elliott starts Def Leppard's segment by explaining how the industry has changed so dramatically since the 1980s. When Def Leppard began, bands had five albums in which to prove their staying power, often not breaking through until the third or fourth. In the '90s, however, the standard procedure became to cut a band if its second release wasn't a million-seller. He theorizes that there'd be no Def Leppard if there hadn't been a third record (which was, by the way, Pyromania!). And that would be a shame, as the band makes quite clear as it fires up "Rocket" from 1987's Hysteria."
