Can I just say we didn't put this list together but whoever did decided to put us, Def Leppard, in the top ten." Phil -- "It's not embarrassing at all Joe! And before you start shouting we're not worthy, we f**king are pal! TV screens please arise, we are worthy, we should be at number one but on VH1s..." Joe -- "Yeah damn right we should!" Phil -- "...bloody right! VH1s countdown of the greatest rock songs of all time, it's us! Def Leppard." (Joe giggling) 8: Def Leppard - Pour Some Sugar On Me (UK Historia Sound Effects Version) Phil -- "Not content with setting the world on fire with his revolutionary guitar playing. Jimi Hendrix once ended a concert by actually setting his guitar on fire. Please don't try this at home." Joe -- "But it's his music that has earned him the number 7 spot in our countdown. Ladies and gentleman have you air guitars at hand now as Jimi Hendrix takes u on a Purple Haze tinted musical ride, All Along The Watchtower." 7: Jimi Hendrix - All Along The Watchtower Joe -- "Flea might be a common name for any of the small wingless insects of the Siphonaptera family. But Flea is also the bass player for the Red Hot Chili Peppers. And as far as we're aware he's not one of the Siphonaptera family." Phil -- "But he and the rest of the Peppers are at number 6 in the VH1 rock countdown now with Give It Away." Joe -- "Give It Away, Give It Away, Give It Away Now!" (mock posing by both from the video) 6: Red Hot Chilli Peppers - Give It Away Joe -- "We're counting down the 50 greatest rock songs here on VH1. Now what do you get if you cross Aerosmith with Run DMC? No it's not a joke it's a fact. You get the anthem that's at number 5 on our countdown. I am of course referring to Walk This Way. The rock and rap hybrid of the two bands which was released in 1986." Phil -- "Yeah and by the way Steven Tyler received an honourary doctorate from the University of Massachusetts. So the Aeromsith frontman is officially a doctor. So who better to prescribe that you walk this way, now." Joe -- "Ooh. Nobody really...." (both giggle) 5: Run DMC & Aerosmith - Walk This Way Joe -- "We're now just 3 songs away from revealing the greatest rock anthem of all time. But in fourth place it's time to get heavy with Lemmy's Motorhead and Ace Of Spades." Phil -- Before we play it I must warn you that a music magazine once stated that this song has an intro which wouldn't be out of place ushering in the end of the world. But don't worry though, it's not the end of the world, at least we don't think so." Joe -- "Better not be." 4: Motorhead - Ace Of Spades Phil -- "In third place and taking the bronze medalion is Nirvana with Smells Like Teen Spirit. This track also came third in VH1's poll of the nation's favourite lyric. Apparently Cobain chose the title after a friend wrote Kurt smells like teen spirit on a wall." (named after the deodorant). Joe -- "Well if that's what his friends wrote I dread to think what his enemies said about him. But let's get rocked anyway with Nirvana." 3: Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit Phil -- "If I told you the lead singer of the band at number two in the countdown of the greatest rock songs was actually called Farouk Bulsara would you know who I was talking about?" Joe -- "Of course! it's our old friend Freddie Mercury here now with Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody. Combining elements of rock, opera and even grand piano there's no denying that this track is quite simply one of the best songs of all time. Most importantly though it's great to headbang to - oh yes!." 2: Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody Joe -- "Right then, the time has finally come. We've counted down the greatest rock songs of all time. And we've got our rocks off with the likes of Bon Jovi, AC/DC, Motorhead and of course, Def Leppard!." Phil -- "But now it's time to announce the rock anthem at number 1. We've already seen 'em once, already on this list. But it's time to welcome back the mighty Guns 'n' Roses. Let's get rocked now with Sweet Child O'Mine at number one." Joe -- "Oh yes." 1: Guns 'n' Roses - Sweet Child O'Mine. |
