Show Intro

"Greetings music lovers and welcome once again to The Joe Elliott Show right here on the magnificent Planet Rock. Have to thank everybody that sent me an email in over the last week or so regarding last week's show. All very positive indeed, about the special that I did for the late great Pete Way. Which was basically one Waysted song and II UFO songs. It is so good to know that that music still means so much to so many people."

"This week's show is a bit more back to normal, but there is till no shortage of fantastic tunes. Including this one from somebody that is still very much with us. David Coverdale and his beat combo Whitesnake."

Whitesnake

"Doesn't it sound massive. All these remixes are just the thing that we need. It is from the recently released The Rock Album. It is Whitesnake and the song Give Me All Your Love."

Nazareth

"Right then let's hop over Hadrian's wall and go and visit Nazareth shall we."

" And before that we heard Nazareth from the album Expect No Mercy with Gone Dead Train."

Jimi Hendrix

"From a fantastic compilation that was released in 2018. In fact it was the third of three. A trilogy if you like, of albums a posthumous collection of stuff by Jimi Hendrix. That particular album features all sorts of people. There's a version of Woodstock by Joni Mitchell and Steve Stills. features on the album. The album is called Both Sides Of The Sky. That particular track we just heard, the opening song Mannish Boy."

Dixie Dregs

"Right then all you rockers of a certain age think back to a time where we just had one rock show a week for a couple of hours on a Friday night. Wehn we didn't have the delights of the likes of Planet Rock to listen to 24 hours a day. This may bring back a memory of two."

"Before that we heard Dixie Dregs featuring the wonderful guitarist that is Steve Morse who has spent more time now in Deep Purple than Ritchie Blackmore did. Amazing when you think about it. It is from an album called What If. The song is Take It Off The Top. And as we all know the theme tune to the Tommy Vance Rock Show."

Sixx A.M.

"Come on now be honest, I bet you never thought you'd hear yours truly singing along with the likes of Corey Taylor from Slipknot and of course Stone Sour. Ivan Moody from Five Finger Death Punch or Tommy Vex from Bad Wolves. Brantley Gilbert the country singer. Or Slash on guitar. Well Slash actually I have worked with before in the Rock 'n' Roll All Stars, the Kings Of Chaos and of course the Freddie Mercury Tribute show back in 1992."

"But what we just heard there is a song from the original soundtrack of a movie coming out soon called Sno Babies. It's a charity re-record of a Sixx A.M. track originally released in 2016 called Maybe It's Time. And it's to deal with an opiate crisis in the USA which has probably killed as many people as the corona virus. It just doesn't get the same kind of publicity. Nikki Sixx is doing his best to later those facts and good for him."

"You are listening to The Joe Elliott Show on the wonderful Planet Rock. It's time for a little break, and when we come back, we're gonna get a bit salty with Procul Harum."

Procul Harum

"And before that another band that did exactly the same thing. they started out with their biggest ever hit, which was A Whiter Shade Of Pale, had a few more and then disappeared and then came back again. They are Procul Harum. the song we just heard A Salty Dog."

Yes

"I have never been a fan of the phrase the wilderness years. It has such a negative connotation. But the fact is that most artists that have been around for a long time will have gone through the wilderness years or the doldrums or whatever you wanna call 'em. All of a sudden they don't maybe sell as many records as they used to do. Like Status Quo, even David Bowie and Paul McCartney. went through this. Def Leppard definitely did in the mid 90s to the mid noughties. From maybe Slang right up to the YEAH! album. Before it all started taking off again. Another band that went through exactly the same thing was Yes. After the big years of the 70s and nto the 80s they released some great music that just seemed to go under the radar. That track we just heard being one of them. It is from a 1994 album called Tork. The song is The Calling."

The Beatles

"A band that never went through the wilderness years, because they split before they even had a chance to, was this lot. It's the Fab Four."

"And before that we heard the Fab Four, The Beatles from the White Album in 1968. But what we just heard is the 2018 remix by Giles Martin. Son of Sir George Martin. The song, the magnificent Martha My Dear."

Jethro Tull

"I always get a warm fuzzy feeling when I hear that song and I can still remember the first time I ever heard it. Strange what you remember. We, my parents and I, were on a caravan holiday in Wales with a tiny little AM radio and it came on Radio 1. And I've been a fan ever since. It is Living In The Past by Jethro Tull. These days you can find it as a bonus track on the second album Stand Up. Back in those days it was a standalone single."

The Psychedelic Furs

"Well having heard a couple of songs from the 60s let's jump a decade straight into the 80s. Good grief. This is The Psychedelic Furs."

"And before that we heard The Psychedelic Furs that don't make me laugh. They just, I'm very in awe of them. I think they're a magnificent band. From an album called Mirror Moves we heard the big hit Heaven."

Frank Zappa

"Imagine the scenario back in the summer of 1983. Where Def Leppard were sat around the pool in Los Angeles enjoying a day off before two sold out shows at the LA Forum. I'm just chatting away with the boys and a gentleman, this is no word of a lie, a gentleman that works at the hotel walks over with a telephone on a silver platter. And says is one of you guys Joe Elliott. And of course I said Yes. I would not normally take these calls but I did. And a very deep voiced gentleman on the other end of the line said Is this Joe Elliott?. And I said yes. He says this is Frank Zappa. And I said no it's not and I put the phone down. And oh how we laughed but then he called back. So I took the call again and he said no I'm serious I'm Frank Zappa and he basically proved himself by reeling off all these album titles and long story short he was asking for tickets for Dweezil Zappa who wanted to come and see us play the following night. You couldn't make it up. So I thought it's about time. I've never played Frank Zappa on my show before. From what is probably thought of as his favourite or his best ever record. It's called Shake Your Booty. It is Frank Zappa. the song Dancin' Fool. And it just makes me laugh."

Show Outro

"And that my friends is about it for this week. It's been a real pleasure as always. I shall be back with you next week at exactly the same time."

"So until then I'll leave you with this crowd. Now if you're watching the News at all you will notice amongst all the rain and the Coronavirus and all that kinda stuff California in the USA is pretty much on fire from top to bottom. Well in the mid 70s this crowd tried to set the Sunset Strip on fire and almost did. This from their debut album is The Runaways with Cherry Bomb. Until next week see ya. "
