Show Intro

"Good evening and welcome once again to The Joe Elliott Show right here on the amazing Planet Rock. Great to be with you once again. We have in my humble opinion sixty minutes of amazing music tonight. And we are going to be amongst other things celebrating the 81st birthday of this gentleman. Please raise your glasses or the indefatigable Mr. Ian Hunter."

Ian Hunter

"I saw that particular tour at the Doncaster Gaumont in June of 1977 when me and a couple of my buddies from Sheffield took the train up and it was the first time I ever met the great man. We snuck backstage, as you could do back in the 70s. Knocked on the dressing room door. it was opened by one Mr. Earl Slick who let us in. We had some photographs taken. Had a quick natter and then we left them in peace. That is Ian Hunter from the 1977 album Overnight Angels with the opening track Golden Opportunity. More from the great man later in the show."

Sweet

"Now along with celebrating Ian Hunter's birthday we also have the other side of the coin to deal with this week sadly. That pesky grim reaper has been sticking his scythe in where it doesn't belong once again and has harvested yet another one of us. Mr. Steve Priest from Sweet. Now if you ever saw Sweet on Top Of The Pops back in the 70s you'll have noticed that their bass played used to dress I would say at least controversially on occasions. And he always had something very interesting to add to any of their hit singles. As can be heard right here."

"And before that we heard Sweet themselves from the Lost Singles collection with Blockbuster which featured the wonderful Steve Priest line We just haven't got a clue what to do. And no who's gone we probably don't. Rest in peace Steve Priest."

Def Leppard

"I have to be honest here I wasn't planning on playing that song at all this week but once the connection became apparent it seemed the obvious and logical thing to do. That is Def Leppard from the 2006 covers album YEAH! with our version of the classic Sweet song Hellraiser. Where the Steve Priest sung line is brilliantly interpreted by none other than Justin Hawkins from The Darkness."

AC/DC

"OK so more from Def Leppard in approximately five minutes after we've heard from this pesky little chap. This is AC/DC."

"And before that we heard AC/DC from the immortal album Let There Be Rock with a wonderful bit of work called Problem Child."

Def Leppard

"If the show is coming across as somewhat self indulgent this week I do apologise. I am not by nature a narcissistic person. I wasn't planning on playing the Sweet song that we covered until I heard of the news of the passing of Steve Priest. But I was always gonna be playing something off this newly released box set that we have, London To Vegas. That from the 6th December 2018 is the live version of Excitable from Hysteria At The O2."

"You are listening to the Joe Elliott Show on the wonderful Planet Rock. I promise you we are done with Def Leppard for for this week. And after the break we're gonna get back on track with Ian Hunter's birthday celebrations with some classic Mott The Hoople."

Mott The Hoople

"And before that we heard Mott The Hoople from 1972's Brian Capers. their last record before they signed to CBS and went on to wonderful things. Thanks in part to David Bowie giving them All the Young Dudes. The song that we just heard is the magnificent 9 minutes and 15 seconds of The Journey."

Paul McCartney And Friends

"That particular album has been doing the rounds amongst my friends for the last week or so. So I thought I'd play something from it. It is the concerts for the people of Kampuchea. Which came out in 1981 although the concerts were actually performed in 1979. I remember well watching them on TV. And that particular song always just floated my boat. What a great bit of work. It is called Rockestra Theme. It is basically Paul McCartney and a bunch of guests. the likes of John Bonham, Kenney Jones, John Paul Jones, David Gilmour, Pete Townshend. Everybody and their Grandmother, could barely get everybody on stage. Lovely bit of work."

Black Sabbath

"Right then it is now time for us all to experience a little bit of technical ecstasy. This is Black Sabbath."

"And before that from the album Technical Ecstasy we heard Black Sabbath with a great bit of work called Gypsy."

Coverdale/Page

"With riffs like that from the riffmeister himself Jimmy Page the album was always gonna sound a little Zeppelin-esque wasn't it. That from 1992 is David Coverdale and JimmyPage from the album simply called Coverdale/Page with Easy Does It."

Show Outro

"And that my friends, on what has been mostly a celebration of Ian Hunter's 81st birthday. Wow. Just think about that for a minute. That's about for this week. Been a real pleasure as always. I shall be back with you next week at exactly the same time."

"So until then we'll go out with one more song from the great man. From his 1975 solo album Ian Hunter. This is I Get So Excited. Until next week see ya!."
