Show Intro

"Hello hello hello and welcome once again and welcome to The Joe Elliott Show right here on the amazing Planet Rock. I hope you're all well. I think I might be going a little stir crazy with this lockdown thing. Though we are opening up a little bit. Which is nice, but still. It's a little strange isn't it Whathave we got for you tonight. Sixty minutes of fantastic music. And if you're a fan of Whitesnake look out for this next week. And check this out. This is fantastic."

Whitesnake

"I was on the phone with Lord Coverdale this week as it happens for about an hour. We had a real good old natter actually about all things Leppard and all things Whitesnake. He was telling me about his future projects including the rock album which is out on the 19th June/ Which by my calculations is next Friday. Every song on the rock album is a remix. Brand new 2020 remix. And they sound amazing. As does the song that we just heard. Compared to the version of the 1987 album it's basically got a little bit more oopmh and a lot less of that 80s reverb. Great work. The song Still Of The Night."

Tokyo Motor Fist

" So from a brand new remix to a brand new song. This is Tokyo Motor Fist."

"And before that we heard a band called Tokyo Motor Fist. Featuring as a main writer, player and singer Mr. Steve Brown. Once of Trixter and occasional Leppard stunt man. In other words he has filled in for both Phil and Vivian when either illness or family emergencies have got in our way. Very talented gentleman. The song is Youngblood."

David Gilmour

"From the Bob Ezrin produced second solo album from Dave Gilmour from back in 1984. That is a song called You Know I'm Right. the album is About Face."

Iggy Pop

"There's a brand new Iggy Pop box set out called The Bowie Years. It's about 6 or 7 CDs. I dug deep through it this week thinking I'll play something kind of unusual. But this song is just undeniable."

"And before that David Bowie's old mate Iggy Pop. There's a brand new box set out called The Bowie Years. It's a 7 CD vox set. I believe it's 6 or 7 CDs. I was gonna dig really deep into this and pull out something that probably had never been played on the radio before. But as soon as I got to this song. it's just undeniable. The drum beat it's just, it's hypmotic. It just got me. I had no option but to play Lust For Life."

David Bowie

"I had a nice little message from his daughter Sarah this week reminding me, not that I needed reminding, that it would have been Trevor Bolder's 70th birthday just a few days ago. Trevor Bolder was the bass player in Uriah Heep for over a quarter of a century. Played for two years or so with Wishbone Ash. But of course to us Bowie fans was a member of the Spiders From Mars from 1970 to 1973. I and Phil Collen had the great pleasure of playing with Trevor and with Woody Woodmansey the drummer The Spiders in a band called the Cybernauts. About 30 odd years ago we did a handful of gigs around the UK. Did a little tour of Japan, put out a live album that was recorded at the Olympia theatre in Dublin. And what a wonderful guy Trevor Bolder was. Fellow Yorkshireman of course, great sense of humour. I chose the song I just played because not only did he play some wonderful bass on that song he also played the trumpet. He was a multi talented gentleman was Mr. Trevor Bolder. The song is Kooks. It is from the 1971 album Hunky Dory."

"You are listening to the Joe Elliott Show on the wonderful Planet Rock. We just played tribute to Trevor Bolder. After the break we're gonna be paying tribute to yet another one that we've lost this week. So get ready to take a ride on the Mystery Train with YFO."

UFO

"Let's move on to Paul Chapman. Paul Chapman was the replacement for Michael Schenker. About 1978 he joined UFO. He'd been in and out the band before. He was actually in the band with Michael in 1974 but he didn't stay around for any studio stuff. Just played with them live. He went back home and he started the band Lone Star who made two fantastic records. Firing On All Six being one of my favourite albums of all time. Tonka moved to Florida, became a guitar tutor and always came to see Def Leppard. And as I just mentioned actually even brought one of the guys from Badfinger who'd moved to Florida as well. About 15 years ago. Tonka came to every Def Leppard gig in Florida. He was a huge fan. he was a great friend of ours. Me and Phil have known him for many many years. And I can't believe that the guy died on his 66th birthday. It will be nice one day to do this show where nobody died. Rest in peace Paul Chapman. Wonderful guy. There we just heard him on the live version of an Elvis Presley song called Mystery Train which was recorded at The Marquee on the 16th .November 1980. It's a bonus track from the 2009 digital release of No Place To Run. Rest in peace Tonka."

Badfinger

"What an absolute tragedy that band were but what fantastic music they made. They are Badfinger. They came from Swansea in Wales. They were singed to The Beatles Apple label. They were produced by George Harrison and Todd Rundgren. The recorded songs written by Paul McCartney. In fact one of their big hits No Matter What Def Leppard covered on our YEAH! album we liked 'em so much. But they were so tied up in litigation with bad contracts that it drove two members of the band to suicide. Which is incredible half the band killed themselves over the fact that the business got in the way of the music. I met the drummer. Lovely gentleman by the name of Mike Gibbons in Florida in 2005 when he came as a guest of Paul Chapman."

Wall Of Voodoo

"Right well after all that. I think I need a little bit of light relief. Ladies and gentleman it's Bonkerzoid time again."

"And before that Wall Of Voodoo. Magnificent stuff. From 1983. That song was on every single radio station in every town that Def Leppard went to in 1983 on our first headline tour of America. No doubt it was on every station in Mexico as well. There featuring the wonderful Stan Ridgeway. It is Wall Of Voodoo with Mexican Radio."

ELO

"Magnificent stuff there from the Electric Light Orchestra featuring of course the incomparable Mr. Jeff Lynne. It is from The Essential Collection. It is the 7 inch edit of the song Nightrider."

Heavy Metal Kids

"Right for these next couple of songs we're going all the way Mexico to the East End of London. Starting off with the Heavy Metal Kids."

"And before that the Heavy Metal Kids from their eponymously titled debut album with Ain't It Hard."

Hustler

"That was their nearly hit single. They opened for Queen in 1974 and then kind of pretty much disappeared. They are Hustler from their debut album of the same name with a wonderful thing called Get Outa Me 'Ouse."

Show Outro

"And that my friends is about it or this week. It's been a real pleasure as always. I shall be back with you next week, you guessed, at exactly the same time for more of the same noly a little bit different."

"So until then I'll leave you with this from the resurrected Destroyer 2012 remix. This is KISS Flaming Youth. Until next week see ya!."
