92.2 The Wale/Jen In The Morning - Phil Collen Interview Quotes - (Transcribed by dltourhistory)

Virginia Beach/20/20 Vision Tour

"You know obviously we're doing a stadium tour with Motley Crue, Poison and Joan Jett before that. But as soon as it closes down we go indoors. I know that's an outdoor shed, we've played it a billion times."

"In fact I was there last week. Yeah my daughter lives in Virginia Beach and she's in High School now but her middle school was walking distance from the venue honestly. So I'd go past it all the time."

"I do the same things, go to the same record stores. Vinyl Daze which is in Virginia Beach. So I'm there all the time."

"So I know what I'm gonna be doing up there. I'm obviously gonna be seeing my daughter and doing all Virginia Beach type things."

Band Staying Together

"Well always it's been, and without sounding corny, it's been about the music. But when a lot of other bands were touring during the 80s and everything we were stuck in the studio like spending..."

"In the Hysteria days up to almost five million dollars making a record which is ridiculously stupid. But we're really glad we did 'cause it came out and we're going oh my god suppose this flops or something."

"We were too deep and then we were borrowing all this money from the label and all that. But there's a real, there's an integrity to what we do. We really believe in the stuff obviously otherwise we wouldn't sit in studios for years and years on end, you know, trying to make this great record or records."

"And we're blessed at the moment, we're having a kind of Indian Summer in our career ."

PC1 Guitar

"It's over 20 years old. For anyone who knows anything about guitars it's a hybrid Strat. A fender Stratocaster and a Gibson Les Paul."

"You know Eddie Van Halen kind of pioneered this, if you could combine the two. And my guitar PC1 is literally a super hot rodded, you know, millennial version of that guitar."

"When I play anything else it kind of feels and sounds substandard. So my latest one's ridiculous. You pick them up and you're like wow, you can't put them down."

Staying Healthy On Tour/Recent Surgery

"On tour it's easy 'cause you're just kind of maintaining it. it's the moth like right now, and just prior to a tour you know."

"Like a couple of months ago I had deviated septum surgery. You know if your nose is crooked. You know I broke it years ago, I think I dived in a swimming pool and smashed my nose on the bottom of the pool."

"And it's been, you know, stuffy ever since and it really annoys me. So I eventually got this thing done and I couldn't work out for a while ."

"So now I'm actually having to, you know, get the diet ready. And the workout routine. Once you get to a certain point it's actually easier to maintain."
