Show Intro

"Aye Aye Greetings. Hello. Welcome. It's The Joe Elliott Show right here on the magnificent Planet Rock. Good to be with you again as always. We've got sixty minutes of, in my humble opinion, fantastic music for ya tonight. In fact there's am ill wind blowing and it's bringing a storm. This is Mott.

Mott

"Now as you all well know. You'd be hard pushed to find a bigger Ian Hunter stroke Mott The Hoople fan than myself. But I can not imagine life without those two Mott albums. They're fantastic bits of work. Mott were essentially Mott The Hoople without Ian Hunter. And in fact without Mick Ralphs or Ariel Bender. Or indeed for a little while Mick Ronson. The guitar work on those two albums was taken care of by a fantastic player called Ray Major. And the singing was a gentleman called Nigel Benjamin who definitely influenced me singing in the higher registers. I love that music so much I've covered quite a lot of it on the first teo Down 'n' Outz albums. Including the song that we just heard which was originally featured on Mott's second album in 1976. That album is called Shouting And Pointing. The song that we just heard Storm."

The Beatles

"This past week I have found myself wallowing somewhat in a bit of a mixed bag of emotions. Some of them quite poignant and reflective. And some of them very celebratory. Let's start off shall we with the former. 40 years ago. December the 8th 1980 to be precise. We lost one of the most important figures in the history of rock and roll. Let's spend a few minutes reflecting on the genius that was, and in fact still is, the late great John Lennon."

"And before that what else, it's The Beatles. It's from the album Magical Mystery Tour. It is the magnificent I Am The Wallrus."

John Lennon

"Great to hear two mates having a real blast together there. Featuring guest vocals by Sir Elton John. That is John Lennon from a brand new collection called Gimme Some Truth. 2020, brand new remixes overseen by Sean Ono Lennon. The song we heard Whatever Gets You Through The Night."

Def Leppard

"Now the 8th of December is also for me a very significant date a little closer to home. So belated birthday Phil Collen."

And before that it is Def Leppard, but it's essentially Phil solo doing a fantastic rework of the Iggy And The Stooges track Search And Destroy.

Delta Deep

"Now it's been out a while but I heartily suggest that if you haven't heard the album you should check it out. There's some great stuff on it. Including a duet with Mr. David Coverdale. Some fantastic singing by Debbie Cook. But it is Delta Deep. Phil Collen's side project. The eponymous titled debut album. The song we just heard Down In The Delta."

"You're listening to The Joe Elliott Show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock. It's time for a little break. And when we come back, well in any tongue it's Dave Gilmour."

Dave Gilmour

"And before that Dave Gilmour from 2015. The album is Rattle That Lock. The song we heard, a fantastic bit of work called In Any Tongue ."

The Adventures

"That song has been a topic of discussion between me and some of my email friends all week as to the relevance of that song in 2020. As opposed to when it was released in the 80s. Probably very similar. One thing that is for sure it sounds as good now as it id then. The band are The Adventures. It's from an album called The Sea Of Love. The song is Broken Land."

The Struts

"Right well they're young, they're dangerous. they're brilliant. I love them. They're The Struts."

"And before that we heard the wonderful Struts from the album Young And Dangerous with Primadonna Like Me."

Jet

"Great high energy stuff there from Jet. That is the Australian Jet. Not the British 70s Glam Rock Jet that didn't really take off sadly but they were awesome. But so are that particular Jet. As I said the Australian version of the band called Jet. The album is Get Born. The song Are You Gonna Be My Girl."

"So this next four piece band had within their ranks three lead singers. All well capable of delivering a great vocal. So on this particular track I say this. Over to you Roger."

"And before that we heard Queen. Fantastic stuff from Queen II. Lead vocals by Roger Taylor. The song The Loser In The End."

Polyphonic Spree

"Fronter by the very eccentric Tim DeLaughter who was once the singer in a band called Tripping Daisy who opened for Def Leppard back in 1996. But that is the Polyphonic Spree from an album called Fragile Army. The song is just called Section 24."

Show Outro

"And that my friends is about it for this week. It's been a real pleasure as always. But you know that already don't ya. I shall be back with you next week at exactly the same time for more of the same only just a little bit different.

"So until then let's go out the way that we always come in. Confused, don't be. From 1999 the Euphoria album. And the theme tune to The Joe Elliott Show on the wonderful Planet Rock. This is Def Leppard and Disintegrate. Happy birthday Phil and Until next week see ya!. "

Rick Savage Quote - "Hey what about my birthday you git!...."
