DEF LEPPARD's RICK SAVAGE Records Solo Acoustic Performance For SHEFFIELD Charity Show

Def Leppard bassist Rick Savage gave a rare solo acoustic performance for a Sheffield charity show this week with video available.

Sav (or 'Rick from Def Leppard'...) played his own song 'We All Need Christmas' for the first time as a solo acoustic performance.

After a short introduction he played the first verse and chorus in a performance recorded before Christmas.

As explained by Joe on his recent Planet Rock radio show Christmas Edition the song was written and recorded in the middle of the very hot UK summer of 2018.

Eventually released in October 2018 as the lead single from 'The Story So Far...The Best Of'.

The event was called 'Christmas Carol Concert for the Sheffield Children's Hospital' with Sav as one of the performers.

The two and a half hour show was hosted by two musicians called The Lipinski brothers playing various carols at the request of people like Jessica Ennis as well as talking about the work of the hospital.

The hospital is located in the Broomhill area of the city not far from where both Sav and Joe grew up.

The performance is notable as the very first solo performance of Sav's career.

With the closest comparable ones taking place in November 1995 along with Joe when they did 'Can't Keep Away From The Flame' on Irish TV.

And in March 2004 when he and Joe played four acoustic songs together for the 'Sincerely Sheffield' show in Sheffield.

The other being a semi-solo performance alongside his daughter Jordan in April 2010 at the Dave Kilner Tribute Show which was also held in Sheffield and the Sheffield City Hall.

However he only sang backing vocals on two of those performances and not full lead vocals.

He has of course taken lead vocals on the 2006 Queen cover 'Dear Friends' from the 'YEAH!' Walmart bonus disc.

And again on the 2015 'Last Dance (Demo)' from the Japanese version of 'Def Leppard'.

Sav's performance can be seen in the video on youtube.com which runs from 2 hours 5:34 minutes until 2 hours 7:41 minutes.

The next scheduled performance by any Def Leppard member is Joe Elliott's appearance at Celebrating David Bowie concert on 8th January 2021.
