Show Intro

"Greetings music lovers. Or should I say seasons greetings music lovers. And welcome once again to the Christmas edition of The Joe Elliott Show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock. Yes it is gonna be sprinkled with quite a few Christmas songs tonight. But I promise you, and as much as we love them and we do, they'll be no Slade and they'll be no Wizzard. But there will be the Sensational Aex Harvey Band.

Sensational Alex Harvey Band

"That gentleman was always the master of doing things just a little bit differently. That gentleman was Alex Harvey. And there with his Sensational band. Their debut album back in 1972. Framed is the album. The song we just heard There's No Lights On The Christmas Tree Mother They're Burning Big Louie Tonight. Now Big Luie just so we all know was a prisoner on death row. And he was gonna be executed on Christmas Eve. Exactly yes. Not Jingle Bells by any chance and certainly not Bing Crosby. Absolutely magnificent stuff there."

Cheap Trick

And here with a little bit more sweetness and little and jingle bells is their take on a Christmas song. This is Cheap Trick."

"And before that Cheap Trick who did an entire Christmas record a couple of years ago called Christmas Christmas. That's one of the more rockier numbers on it. It's just called Father Christmas."

Jethro Tull

"Three years ago this week as it happens I had the great pleasure of singing three songs with the leader of that band. One Mr. Ian Anderson. In Bradford Cathedral to help raise money for church restoration. It's a project that he has every year. Sadly this years it's had to be cancelled for obvious reasons. He emailed me the other day to let me know that he's trying to reschedule the shows for next year and has invited me along once again. And so I might get the chance to sing a couple more Tull songs soon who knows."

"Till that particular opportunity arises we shall listen to them on vinyl as we just did. Or MP3. It is Jethro Tull there from their Christmas album. The song Birthday card At Christmas."

Sparks

"Now musically you could say that these next two artists have a somewhat similar style now and again. But the sentiment and the titles of these two songs couldn't be more opposite. This is Sparks."

"But before that. Oh yes we heard Sparks from 1974. Their third album Kimono My House with Thank God It's Not Christmas. oh come on boys. Bah humbug!.

Queen

"These days you can find it on the bonus disc of 1984's The Works album. It is of course Queen with Thank God It's Christmas."

"You're listening to the ChristmasJoe Elliott Special right here on the very seasonal Planet Rock. It's time for a little break. And when we come back, we're heading off to Minneapolis. It's cold over there. With Tom Waits."

Tom Waits

"And before that we heard Tom Waits. The wonderful Tom Waits. The album is Used Songs 1973-1980. The song is called Christmas Card From A Hooker In Minneapolis."

Huwey Lucas

"That young man auditioned for Def Leppard in 1991 along with a few other people and of course Vivian Campbell. He didn't get the gig obviously but he's a great player. Really good singer and a lovely guy. His name is Huwey Lucas. That's a single he recorded about two or three years ago called Say You'll Come Home For Christmas."

The Who

"Now this next song was never a Christmas single, but it would have been magnificent had it been. This is The Who."

"And before that we heard The Who from the album Tommy. With guess what?. yes Christmas."

Greg Lake

"In my humble opinion it is one of the greatest Christmas songs ever written and recorded. It is Greg Lake. it is I Believe In Father Christmas. It just never gets old. I can to that song in June or July. It's fantastic."

Bubble

"Now here featuring Share Ross of the Down 'n' Outz and Vixen on lead vocals is a band called Bubble."

"And before that we heard Bubble. A bit more bubbly. The song is called Christmas Here On Mars."

TV Smith

"That ladies and gentleman is TV Smith. Once the leader of that mighty punk band The Adverts. With a song called Xmas Bloody Xmas. He's definitely got a bit of a bah humbug factor in that particular tune."

Show Outro

"So from Mars we fall all the way back down to Earth 'cause that's about it for this week folks. Been a real pleasure as always. I shall be back with you next week at exactly the same time for my round up. My best of 2020 show.

"So until then all I have left to say is I wish you all a very very Merry Christmas. Please stay safe. Be good to each other. Have a fantastic time and let's look forward to a much better 2021. Let's be honest it couldn't be much worse could it. Let's hope not, fingers crossed."

"So until next week I'm gonna leave you with this. Def Leppard's one and only ever stab at a Christmas song. And this year more than most we really do all need Christmas. So until next week see ya!."
