Show Intro

"Greetings everyone and welcome once again to The Joe Elliott Show right here on what is the most wonderful of radio stations Planet Rock. What have we got tonight?. Sixty minutes of fantastic music. That's all I ever play because rock music is fantastic music. Starting off with Sparks."

Sparks

"Well I mentioned the bass player by name last week Mr. Ian Hampton. So I thought this week I'd let you hear what his dulcet tones sounded like on his four string razor. Or to you and I the bass guitar. There from 1975 of course Sparks. the album Indiscreet produced by one Mr. Tony Visconti. The song In The Future."

Ian Hunter

"Now here's a couple of tunes that came in the future after Mott The Hoople spilt up. Starting with Mr. Ian Hunter."

"And before that from the same year. Ian Hunter's third solo album. technically it was a new band called the same as the album title Overnight Angels. But really it was an Ian Hunter third solo album. The song we heard Golden Opportunity."

British Lions

"Taking up where Mott left off who themselves picked up where Mott The Hoople left off. Three fifths of Mott The Hoople formed a brand new band called Mott. With the new boys Nigel Benjamin and Ray Major. That band would gie us two albums and then Nigel Benjamin would leave. they would hook up with the legendary John Fiddler. Once of Medicine Head and become British Lions. And there from their debut album in 1977 we heard the song My Life's In Your Hands."

Mink Deville

"Now forgive me if you've heard me say this before but people of a certain age put your hand in the air if you thought this was Lou Reed when you first heard it."

"And before that not Lou Reed but Willy Deville from that wonderful band Mink Deville. From their debut album. The song Spanish Stroll."

Sinceros

"I must confess to knowing very little about that band. They are called the Sinceros. All I know is that when I was driving a van for an Iron Mongery firm round Sheffield in 21979 it was on the radio quite a lot and I bought the single. It's a great bit of work. It's probably from an album that I've never heard. Fill me in if you have any information. Please send it forward. As I say it's the Sinceros. The song Take Me To Your Leader."

"You are listening to the Joe Elliott Show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock. It's time for a little break, and when we come back, couple of pretty damn good live tracks. Even if for one of them I do say so myself."

Def Leppard

"And before that we heard Def Leppard. Much more recent actually from September 2019 when we were resident for 12 shows in Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas. The opening song every night that we played there. Originally on the 1983 album Pyromania it is Die Hard The Hunter."

UFO

"You know when you come to think of it there was an absolute multitude of great double live albums that came out in the mid to late 70s. Just off the top of my head there's KISS Alive, KISS Alive II, All The World's A Stage by Rush, of course Live And Dangerous by Thin Lizzy. And that album that we just heard that amazing live version of Lights Out from UFO's Strangers In The Night."

Jethro Tull

"Well moving away somewhat from the sound of the 96 decibel freaks to the more dulcet tones of the six string acoustic guitar. Starting off with Jethro Tull."

"And before that Jethro Tull from the magical collection Living In The Past. The song we heard very appropriate fo the weather we're having. You'll know what I mean if you're in Blackpool. It is Up The Pool."

Johnny Thunders

"As you can probably well imagine when you've been in a band for 40 odd years. There are some great highlights of playing live outside of Def Leppard and the Down 'n' Outz. I'm thinking the Freddie Mercury Tribute show when myself and Phil Collen got up to sing backing vocals on All the Young Dudes with the likes of well the remaining members of Queen, David Bowie, Mick Ronson and Ian Hunter. Now that's not a bad band. One of my other favourite all time live memories outside of my usual day job is about 40,000 screaming South Americana watching myself and Duff McKagan sat on two rickety old stools and two rickety old acoustic guitars performing the song that you just heard. That from an album called Bootlegging The Bootleggers. Is the originator of said song Mr. Johnny Thunders. The song is You Can't Put Your Arms Around A Memory."

Lynyrd Skynyrd

"I saw them live, the original lineup of course twice at the Sheffield City Hall back in 76/77 and they were absolutely fantastic. One of the greatest southern rock bands of all time. In fact the greatest southern rock band of all time. Let's face it. They are Lynyrd Skynyrd. The album is Street Survivors. The song That Smell."

Show Outro

"And that my dear friends is about it for this week. Been a real pleasure as always. I shall be back with you next week at exactly the same time."

"So until then I'm gonna leave you with this. Long before he became the go to drummer for the likes of David Coverdale's Whitesnake, Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow. This gentleman had a hit single. With a bit of a tip of the hat to Jimmy Hendrix. I leave you with Cozy Powell and Dance With The Devil. Until next week see ya!."
