Def Leppard 2019 Tour/Sin City Residency

"Yes we have in fact 2019 has been a very busy year. Not quite as busy as 2018 but busy enough. You know it started off in early June at Sweden Rocks. It was the first of 12 festivals that we did this summer which took about a month. Then we were in Canada for the best part of three and a half weeks doing 12 shows which was really really good, but it was totally topped off by this residency that we did at Zappos Theater inside Planet Hollywood which is one of the huge hotels in Las Vegas."

"It really was a spectacular time. it's one of the biggest productions that Def Leppard has ever done anywhere in the world. And what a fantastic place to do it. And you get to sleep in the same bed for the best part of a month. You just can't beat it."

Down 'n' Outz This Is How We Roll Album

"Yes is has indeed been a long time coming. In fact I distinctly remember playing the demos to everybody in the band at The Corporation in Sheffield back in 2014 when we were shooting videos for One Of The Boys and Rock And Roll Queen. And that's how far back basically the embryonic version of the songs goes."

"I think I had for or five songs written back then and I played them to everybody in the band and said what do you think?. And they were all signed off on and you know the band seemed to like the direction that I was taking this."

"It kind of made sense that I wrote the songs myself. But everybody was really happy to just be on board with this project 'cause we have such a great time when we're together."

This Is How We Roll Album

"When it came to this third album we had briefly discussed the idea of doing a further covers record of maybe Wings or ELO, 10CC. You know, that kind of thing. The only song that survived out of that whole idea was White Punks On Dope which is the only cover on that album. it's the song from '75 by a band called The Tubes. But when it became obvious that I had these tunes kind of popping into my head that were very piano based rock and roll. It seemed more likely than not that the third album we would write which is exactly what we've done."

Slick Production

"Yes slick...hmm. It's a naughty word sometimes It can make things sound like they're way overproduced, but I get what you're saying, it's a well produced record is what it really is."

This Is How We Roll Album/Song Title

"Ahh yes this is great. So we're in Sheffield at a hotel where we actually shot the front cover for the My Re-Generation album. The Rutland Hotel. They've got a basement bar. And that's the front cover of My Re-Generation."

"We were back there a year or so later and we were watching the DVD that we'd shot of the infamous gig. The supposed first and only gig we were ever gonna play. I wanted it filmed just so that we had it for posterity. But it turned out pretty well so we ended up releasing it on the internet. Limited Edition version of DVD if you like."

"And we were watching it back in the bar of this hotel and a very kind of squiffy Guy Griffin comes kind of snuggling up to the side of me. And we're both stood there watching the screen and he just started nudging me with his elbow and pointing at the screen and he leaned over and he said to me; 'This is how we roll'."

"And I thought to myself that is a fantastic song title."

Down 'n' Outz Tour

"That indeed Michelle is the 64 thousand pound question, because it was so difficult to get everybody on the same page for the album. With Share living in Florida. Phil being in the Wayward Sons and a bunch of other bands as well when they're not working. And Def Leppard never stop touring either."

"So you've got to imagine a big square piece of paper with 30 cubes on it with numbers 1 to 30 and I've got them for each month for the next few months with big red crosses where nobody's available. Just as they weren't when we made the album."

"That's why it took five years to record. It was done actually in fairness the album in about three months but over a five year period. But going back to the gigs we are actively trying to find a space and that's proving to be very very difficult."

"But we will eventually find a space to make room for some shows. I'm desperate to do it 'cause I really really wanna play these songs live. But more importantly right now the album is out. It's took a long time. It's been a long time coming. We're all really really proud of this album. We're very excited to see the reaction of it when people get to hear it. And that in itself is such an achievement that the live thing, as important as it's gonna be, is just gonna have to take aback burner for a while because I'm just really really basking in the glory of the fact that we got this thing done. We like it and it's finally in the shops."
