Show Intro

"Good evening everybody and welcome once again to The Joe Elliott Show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock. Ahh it's great to be home. I am off the road. We are done for quite a while actually. A substantial amount of time away from the road but still plenty of work to do."

"Including tonight's show. Sixty minutes of what I like to think is amazing music. And this is something to cheer you all up. Especially if you're stuck in the floods or have been in the last few days. it's pretty minging in the UK right now. But this should warm you all up. Little bit of UFO."

UFO

"I remember well and with great fondness seeing UFO at Ipswich Gaumont in the summer of 1978. When they'd just released the Obsession album. We the band Def Leppard as it were took a week's holiday. Actually two weeks on a boat on the Norfolk Broads and we stopped off in Ipswich to watch UFO and a very irate Steve Clark said to us all if we don't do a gig soon I'm gonna leave the band. And within a week Def Leppard had done their first ever gig. Inspired by UFO from their 1978 album Obsession with a fantastic track called Hot 'n' Ready."

Mick Ronson

"Now as some of you may have already figured out. Especially if you've heard the new Down 'n' Outz album that yours truly is a bit of a fan of what I like to consider British Vaudeville rock. It all started with bands like The Kinks in the 60s and even the Small Faces to a point. But it really got to a head with such artists as the next two that we're gonna play. Starting off with Mr. Mick Ronson."

"And before that from a year later 1975 and just a couple of years after he finished working with David Bowie. That is the late great Mick Ronson from his second solo album Play Don't Worry. The song Billy Porter."

Cockney Rebel

"Wonderful stuff there from Cockney Rebel featuring the uber talented Mr. Steve Harley. That is from 1974. The album is Psychomodo. The song we just heard Mr. Soft."

Down 'n' Outz

"And talking of David Bowie here's a very heartfelt tribute to the great man by the Down 'n' Outz."

"And before that we heard the Down 'n' Outz. The brand new album it is called This Is How We Roll. The song we just heard our tribute to the late great David Bowie. The song Goodnight Mr. Jones."

The Beatles

"As I mentioned at the top of the show I'm finally home having been away since the beginning of June. So you can only imagine the mountain of mail that I cam home to. But amongst all the dross of bills and final demands there was some stuff that I'd been ordering throughout the summer and one of them was this fantastic 50th anniversary re-release of The Beatles album Abbey Road. Featuring a phenomenal 2019 remix by Giles Martin. And I thought I'd play something and what, what a vocal performance by Sir Paul McCartney. The song we just heard Oh! Darling."

"You are listening to the Joe Elliott Show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock. It is time for a little break, and when we come back, we're gonna get sensationally obscure with SAHB."

Sensational Alex Harvey Band

"And before that the Sensational Alex Harvey Band or to you and I SAHB. From an album that is probably their least well received album due to the fact that it was released the week that they split up. We heard the title track Rock Drill."

Mott

"From their 1875 debut album Drive On featuring Pete 'Overend' Watts on lead vocals actually. Well, at least on the verses. The song Love Now."

Tom Robinson Band

"Well if you like power pop with a nice big shouty chorus and a fantastic guitar solo. You might like this."

"And before that with their first and most massive hit Tom Robinson Band. The song 2-4-6-8 Motorway."

Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers

"I can honestly say I wish I'd had more opportunities to see that man play live. I did see him a bunch of times including opening for Nils Lofgren at the Sheffield City Hall back in 1978. It is of course Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers from the album Damn The Torpedoes with Even The Losers."

Last In Line

"So as Def Leppard wrapped up this year's touring in Sacramento, California last Saturday. We had two acts open for us. Talk about chalk and cheese. The opening act featured a member of Def Leppard. Yes, this is Last In Line."

"And the band that opened the night up for us was Last In Line. And there from their second album we just heard Give Up the Ghost."

Eagles

"From the album One Of These Nights that is the Eagles with a song called Visions and I play that because last Saturday Don Felder, once of The Eagles, opened for Def Leppard and he played an entire set of Eagles songs. But going through their catalogue he didn't sing elad vocal on that many songs. But he did feature on the track that we just played there."

Show Outro

"And that my friends is about it for this week. It's been a real pleasure as always. I shall be back with you next week at exactly the same time. I'm off now to go and unpack some more bags. So I'll leave you to it."

"But I'll leave you with this. Hailing from Newcastle. Good old Geordie boys. From the album Laughing Academy this is Punishment Of Luxury and Puppet Life. Until next week see ya!."
