Show Intro

"Evening all and welcome once again to The Joe Elliott Show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock. Great to be with you again. Getting ready for the big push, it is now the middle of May and the Def Leppard European tour starts on the 6th of June which of course includes a fantastic fourth appearance at Donington Park. The third as it is as Download. Really looking forward to that the first time that we've ever played on a Friday night. 14th of June. I hope you're gonna be there to join me. Until then we've got sixty minutes of phenomenal music for ya. Including a band that will be on with us on that particular Download show. This is brand new Whitesnake."

Whitesnake

"The album is out. David and the boys are out touring it. It is called Flesh And Blood. They are Whitesnake and the song Shut Up And Kiss Me."

The Rolling Stones

"Right then onward and upwards. A bit of Doom And Gloom for ya. This is The Rolling Stones."

"And before that The Rolling Stones with what was then a brand new song for their then current greatest hits. About the 20th that they've released. An album called Grrr!... G, r, r, r, dot, dot, dot. That is the remix of the song Doom And Gloom. And can I just say it was great to see some video this week of Mick Jagger back in his environment which is basically like a big workout room dancing around following his heart operation. Showing the world that he's back on track. This is something that we all have to do. I myself am preparing for the tour. We all do our thing. Vocal warm ups or finger exercises if you're a guitarist or a drummer. Bit of treadmill work and of course the occasional visit to the dentist. As described so beautifully here by one Mr. Alice Cooper."

Black Star Riders

"Talk about hot off the press. Sir Richard if the Warwick sent me an advance copy of that about two, three weeks ago and I've been living with it for obviously that amount of time. And I can honestly say in my humble opinion it is by far the best Black Star Riders album to date. It's stunning. It's not out yet but that song has been as they call it these days serviced to radio. It's a fantastic record. That is the title track of the album Another State Of Grace."

Alice Cooper

" Alice Cooper."

" And before that fellow Planet Rock presenter the coop. Alice Cooper from the 1973 album Billion Dollar Babies and if that song doesn't encourage you to floss more often nothing ever will. The track Unfinished Sweet."

Hanoi Rocks

"From an album called Two Steps To The Move. Quite ironic really as that band always seemed to be two steps from massive success. It always seemed to elude them for some reason. But they were a massive massive influence on the likes of Guns N' Roses. They are Hanoi Rocks. The song Million Miles Away."

"You are listening to the Joe Elliott Show on the wonderful Planet Rock. It is time for a little break, and when we come back, we're off for a day at the races with Queen."

Queen

"And before that Queen from the album A Day At The Races with the very regal sounding White Man."

Bryan Ferry

"A song covered by Cheap Trick on their last album and played live when they opened for Def Leppard last December on the Hysteria tour of Great Britain and Ireland. Wow that's six months ago. How times flies. The song was originally recorded and written by a gentleman called Dobie Gray back in the sixties but that is the 1974 version by Bryan Ferry stepping out of his role as lead singer of Roxy Music for a little while. He did a solo album called Another Time, Another Place. The song is called The 'In' Crowd."

John Otway

"Now as a total contrast here's a couple of songs from artists that can be described as eccentric."

"And before that John Otway featuring the very wonderful Wild Willy Barrett on guitar. Pulled that from his greatest hits album and it was it was actually a hit. The song Really Free."

Wreckless Eric

"I saw both those guys at I think the Sheffield Polytechnic back in the mid 70s. Very different from everything that had come before. And were absolutely part of that whole new wave punk movement that was showing us that you could still have humour and melody within all that anger. That is Wreckless Eric. Pulled it fro a collection called Cash From Chaos. The song is called Whole Wide World."

Peter Gabriel

"OK we can go a little more regal once again. This from debut solo album, and what an album it is. This is Peter Gabriel."

"And before that the artist that is Peter Gabriel. He had just recently left Genesis to to go solo. His debut solo album a magic bit of work. That track we just heard, fantastic stuff, Modern Love."

Japan

"Now as you can well imagine a lot of the music that I play on my show is from artists that I've seen over the years. Sometimes quite recently and sometimes quite a long time ago. That is a band that I saw back in 1977 at the Sheffield City Hall opening for Blue Oyster Cult. And boy was that a mismatch. They did not go down well in front of most of the BOC fans at all. But I thought they were they were fantastic. They are Japan. They were promoting their debut album Adolescent Sex at the time. That however is a re-record of the title track from 1978 from the sessions for the follow-up album Obscure Alternatives."

Show Outro

"And that my friends is about it for this week. It's been a real pleasure as always. I shall be back with you next week at the same time."

"Until then I'm gonna leave you with this. The voice is unmistakable. But this is a long time before he became a huge solo artist. He is Billy Idol. This is the Ian Hunter produced Generation X and King Rocker. Until next week see ya!."
