Download Festival - Phil Collen/Vivian Campbell Interview Quotes - (Transcribed by dltourhistory)

Third Headline Performance

Vivian - "Ten years to the day June 14th 2009 it was our first headline performance here. ."

Improving As A Band

Phil - "Every year the vocals ger better, the playing gets better. And we get better as a band. It's actually, without any bullshit or anything, it's actually a joy to listen to. You know when we get on stage and we're singing. It still blows me away actually. It sounds like it's samples or tapes or something. And we do notice that kind of wonderful trajectory. And especially as you get older. I think a lot of other bands. They kind of fall off. They can't be bothered. They can't be arsed to do this or that. But And everyone goes how do you keep going. It's like well we keep improving. It keeps getting better and better and better. And so there you go."

Keeping Going

Phil - "I do think plus all the effort we put into making the records. You know with Mutt Lange being the producer and steering us 'cause, you know, he's the most amazing person ever. Like he's the hardest working person I've ever met."

Vivian - "He's very talented. He's the most talented person I've ever met. He's just. He's on a whole different level."

Keeping The Band Fun

Phil - "I think people they take themselves to obviously. You know I think there's that element. There's an ego element that we don't have."

Vivian - "We have a collective ego the band. We all realise that the songs are the most important thing. And that they're much bigger than any of us individually. And you check your ego at the door you know."

Phil - "And back to the pride thing, you know, it's really rewarding knowing that if you mess up on stage the band has got your back. Which happens occasionally. It's just such an honour to be a part of. Honestly sounds great. We love it."

Bad Days On Stage

Phil - "We have this thing called the 85 percent club. So what happens if someone has a really shitty night it's like usually someone else is going Oh I was great tonight. So you know that you're covered. And most of the time we're all around 85. Or 90 percent's great. But if you have an off night no one even notices because everyone's jut doing their thing."

What's left to do as a band?

Phil - "Well we always wanted to do a stadium tour. Which we just did with Journey. And so we want to do more of that. And it never ends. there's always new fans coming in and new people to kind of get inspired. And that's the thing it's not like just to get fans it's to inspire people. We try and and do that. So that never ends so it's an open thing."

"And you know we're having an Indian Summer in our career and we're fully aware of that."
