Whitney Ullman of WTXF/Fox 29 - Rick Allen Interview Quotes
What's your inspiration?
"Pretty much my life experience, you know, life before I was with Def Leppard. Life before I came to the United States for the first time which was in 1980. And then since then, you know, I've had incredible experiences just travelling the world with Def Leppard. So you know everything you see from angels to telephone boxes to Buddhas, bottle caps you name it, hearts. It's all part of my life experience."
Talk to us about your work with veterans?
"Through my own experience of extreme trauma, you know, I suffer from PTSD and when I visited Walter Reed in the D.C. area. I visited some of our wounded vets having spent time around them I realised that they've been through some similar experiences to me. So with my experience of trauma and me talking to them it becomes this wonderful sort of two way street where we help one another."
Advice to an upcoming artist?
"Do it from your heart. And take inspiration, take direction but really celebrate your own uniqueness."
Any hidden talents?
"I don't think. Not too many people know that I've been a vegan since I was like 21. So yeah after my accident, you know, it was like a reset. So I thought it was a great way to create less devastation in the world you know. And it was a good way for me to get healthy."
What's your favourite vegan dish?
"Favourite vegan dishes?. I love Indian food. Any vegan Indian food is great."
How excited are you about the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame?
"That I just appreciate everybody's support and, you know, I think being part of the Hall Of Fame is really something special for us. And I think the thing that's most special for the whole band is the fact that the Fan Vote really. I think that really influenced, you know, how the final vote came out, How, you know, the fact that we're gonna be in the Hall Of Fame. And yeah I think that to us it's great that people are finally recognising how hard we work."
Favourite memory of Atlantic City and Philadelphia?
"Philly, the thing I know about Philly is the crowds there whenever they come to see Def Leppard shows they know how to party. They know how to let go and have a good time."
Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame Induction
“We had discussions towards the end of the last tour, and we were just really happy that so many people came out and voted for Def Leppard," he said. "I’m hoping that had influence on the Hall of Fame in terms of why we’re getting in there.”
SiriusXM Volume - Rick Allen Interview Quotes
Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame Induction
"Yeah that started to happen. It was right at the end of the last tour and I remember sitting in the car with Joe and just going wow, this is so cool that people are acknowledging, you know, us and the amount of emails and people reaching out to congratulate. It's a big deal and actually. I think, I'm hoping that the fan vote influenced the decision that was made because there were so many people that voted for that you know."
Recovery from his car accident
"And then for me it became necessity and then discovering the power of the human spirit and just really going you know what?, this is horrible. This is a horrible thing to happen to anybody but I'm gonna do it."
