DEF LEPPARD's VIVIAN CAMPBELL To Reissue 72987537 Guitar

Def Leppard guitarist Vivian Campbell was interviewed at the NAMM convention and revealed his new guitar.

He was interviewed at the Gibson Guitars room alongside Cheap Trick's Rick Nielsen.

NAMM took place in late January at the Anaheim Convention Center.

Vivian talked about touring, Cheap Trick, advice for young bands and his new guitar.

He revealed that Epiphone guitars will be issuing a new copy of his 72987537 Les Paul as used on the early DIO albums and with Last In Line.

"You know it's always a lot more enjoyable when you're on tour with people that you like. Not only musical respect, we're all big fans of Cheap Trick, but they're genuinely wonderful human beings as are their crew. With Leppard we try and make it a very low pressure environment backstage and, you know, we kinda try to enjoy the process of enjoying the work and it's genuinely nice to be with professionals and good people. And we've toured many times with Cheap Trick and it's always been a pleasure."

New Guitar

"It's a new/old guitar. It's a...Epiphone are doing a version of 72987537 which is my original DIO guitar. I bought it when I was 15. It was a wine red deluxe. I ordered a gold standard. I took emery paper to it, sand paper to it that night. Rory Gallagher was my first guitar hero. I never liked shiny guitars as a result of that so I took sand paper to this Les Paul when I got home that night. About a week or two later I took it to a guy in Belfast and I asked him to repaint it a dull mat black. And then I changed out all the hardware and machine heads, the frets, the pickups. Everything about it and that was the guitar I did the Holy Diver album and tour with with Ronnie. And now it's been in storage for many many years and I only ever play it when I go and do shows with Last In Line which is the remnants of the DIO band."
