JOE ELLIOTT Says DEF LEPPARD's Stadium Tour 2020 Production Will Be Mind-Blowing

Def Leppard 2019. By Chele Drappel

Def Leppard singer Joe Elliott was recently interviewed about the 2020 tour and mentioned the stage production.

Joe spoke to Kory Grow of Rolling Stone after the tour was announced on 4th December.

During their chat he spoke about the announcement, stage production, how the stadium shows came together, playing stadiums, setlists, hair metal tag, a farewell tour for Def Leppard, the RRHOF all-star performance and whether they will do that on the 2020 tour.

Staging

Joe says the stage production for the tour will be "mind blowing" and that they do not plan to play any rare material. As you would expect at a large stadium show.

Setlist

In terms of the setlist he also suggests parts of the Las Vegas show might be included. His mention of the "middle" part of the set hints at the acoustic section being played.

The initial 22 dates for The Stadium Tour with Mötley Crüe, Poison and Joan Jett were announced on 4th December with 7 additional shows then added on 18th December following 9 of the first announced show selling out.

The start date of 21st June seems to put Last In Line's planned appearance at Hellfest in France on 20th June in doubt along with other planned shows. But as of today that show is still listed on the festival site along with their own one.

Rolling Stone - Joe Elliott December 2019 Interview Quote

Def Leppard 2020 Tour Staging

"Now the hard work begins, now that we’ve signed the contract, And that contract won’t get torn up, I promise you. Now we’re off to design a production that will be as mind-blowing as the whole idea is."

The Stadium Tour Idea/Planning

"They wanted to do something that puts us back into stadiums, because it did work really well when we went out with Journey two years ago. And other than the Vegas residency, we took a year away from America, so we wanted to come back with a bit of a bang."

Mini-Festival

"We’re trying to turn these shows into a mini-festival. When you think about Joan Jett opening up the night, and then Poison going on and then us and Mötley following them, it’s an event. It really is."

The Stadium Tour Setlist

"It’s six months away, so we’ve got loads of time to solidify any set lists, but we are actively saying there are certain bits we did in Vegas that should survive."
